  • looking for 3500 cam regrind

i was browsing the custom grinds, and cant find which one i want!
im looking for power from 4500-7000, some low end trq, i dont know what compression ill need with a cam of these specs, but the engine is stock CR...i can use .040 gaskets or .045 gaskets to raise it. the heads will be ported a little. ill be using the trueleo headers. lower intake will be port matched, and possibly a dual plenum intake with the lt1 tb.
let me konw which to use
3500, 1280 cam and PR, ls6 valve springs, port and polished heads, ported lim, ported uim, 4.3 70mm tb, ported trueleo headers and y pipe ALL FOR SALE (minus the car)
96 LT4 6spd corvette. 355, AI 215cc LT4 Comp CNC Heads, Prope SRS pistons, Ported intake, ARH long tubes, Corsa Indy Pace 4:10 gears
    2012 Chevy Sonic Turbo 6spd

and to add to that, id like a good healthy lope at idle, still streetable and enough vacuum for brakes

this is in a fiero btw. ordered the engine today for $150 from car-part.com!!

You need to raise compression if you want a top end cam with some low end torque. Are you running a complete 3500 engine? I wouldn't use a 40 or 45 thousandths thick head gasket. 50 maybe since the 3500 pistons pop out about 10 instead of 20 for 3400 pistons. You will need custom pistons to raise compression, unless you wanna be the first to try the 3.6 DOHC pistons I think that would be an interesting combination.

i dont want to be the lab rat for that, lol. the iron head gasket sounds like the winner, but ill playdoh the thing to be sure with those gaskets.
i work at cadillac and we have abunch of those 3.6s come through everyday, havent seen any pistons yet....

yeah this is the whole engine, ill be using the 7730 ecm and the tce reluctor wheel kit

          looking for about 250hp

is the stock cam solid or are they still pressed on lobes?

I'm using .045" compressed gaskets with no problems on a 3500...

If you want that high of a power band something around 110 LSA, 270-280 or so advertised duration and a bit over .500 lift would do it.

My cam is a .539 in/.549 ex 110 LSA, 288in/293ex advertised. It's not very streetable, i have the car idling at 1100-1200 with around 6-8" of vacuum. With other supporting mods it's making over 300 crank HP. Brakes suck under 2K RPM.

you'll have to upgrade the valve springs, stockers won't take that lift or abuse.

.035 isn't going to hit the head with the piston unless you spin it way up there (8k probably). Solid lifters for that. I thought the iron heads were .040". What is the bore size on those?

If you want to pull to 7000, you are going to lose bottom end and idle quality. 1331 grind with 114 lsa is a good match for 4.5-7k on the 3500 with 9.8-10.8:1

3.75 bore size on those, .040 is what ive measured.

how much loss are we talking with the 1331 grind?

i want to beable to drive this at any point in time, not have to fiddle with it to keep it running. i love to drive, and will proably drive this on everyday that has decent weather. i have a dd, but why use it when the fiero is so much fun to drive?

by lumpy idle, i want it to sound like my iron head motor did on the 272 cam. it had 0 overlap... maybe shooting for 7000 is a bit much, what about 6500?

can i use some small block springs? ive got the ls6 springs here, but i dont think theyll handle that much lift! the other springs i had on my iron head motor are crane 99846, and installed at 1.8 theyll handle .600 lift. theyre 1.255 od and 125# at 1.8'' and 383# at 1.2''

6500 is a better goal. It was showing 10hp loss at 2000 with the 1331 grind. The 1280 is more in the category of 6500, or the 1429.

with that cam plugged into pipemax ( a cheap rough estimate dyno like program) it shows at 100%VE that the engine will make at best 322hp!!! wow, thats a ton! i wasnt expecting that at all! 250 is what im expecting, but if i can get more and remain steetable...hell ill go for it!

is it possible to get more duration on the 1280? like 2 more degrees on both intake and exhaust?

superdave, the guys at delta cams were trying to find your number to find out where you got a solid core from...they said the 3500 had pressed lobes??

I can't change the lobe specs other than switching for a different lobe that exists already on the chart. Otherwise I have to pay for them to make the new master profile.
