Ya, great feeling coming back to the stagging lames after a crap run , been there a few times. I just looked up the tack times here and it looks like September 2 there is a street legal drag night at Budwieser Park, hope this one doesn't get rained out like the past three.

By the way, was your swap with a 284 or 282?

I can teach you how to shift. apparently I'm quite good at it, according to a few reliable sources. All I ask is a chance to drive this beast and maybe discuss some of the finer details of the engines with you (wink wink). I can't wait to see your strip times, but as I have found out with the stick, drag racing is a whole new ball game. Powershifting means good times, and I'm willing to teach.
I may own a GTO now, but I'm still a 60V6er at heart.

Ya I hear you, even though my auto robbed a ton of torque, at least it was consistant and gave a good 60' time. This stick is just a PITA. Today I was launching at 3kish and wasn't going full throttle when I dropped the clutch and I seemed to get a fairly strong launch, but then I shift into 2nd at about 7,100-7,200 and loose all traction - it just kills my momentum, then into 3rd isn't a problem, a little squak from the tires and that's it.

Again, launching is my biggest issue - the damn clutch is so grabby that it makes it very difficult to be consistant. I'm almost regreting going with the Ironman now.

What do you launch at? What are your shift points? What were your 60' and 1/4 times at what mph?

And by the way, at next year's meet I'll have no problem throwing the key to a few of your guys to take it for a rip down the track.

Short shift it. Try shifting 1-2 at around 6500 rpm's.

I was thinking of that, at 6500 I'm still over 250 WHP and around 200 WTQ, but that may present even more traction issues because when I shift at 7150ish my torque is around 175ish. I'm going to calibrate my Gtech RR today and start logging.

                    Kevwood,

I'll be up in Edmonton from the 5th through the 10th. Any chance we can meet up so I can check it out? I'll actually be working in Nisku for most of the week.

Hell yeah! That'll be great. What are you doing in Nisku? I'm down there often, I've got a few customers that have their yards there. Are you driving up or flying? I'd sure like to line up against your turbo

I tend to launch around 2600, but then I have mad low end. I still spin a tad off the line but it's acceptable cuz it keeps the revs up just enough to get going. I go to 7000 1, go to 7250 in 2, and am maxing out 3rd at the end of the trap. If you want to keep from lighting them up in 2nd, try shifting lower as previously stated. Keep in mind that a small chirp from the tires when you go to second is fine and actually better for a hard shift because some of the energy absorbed by the transmission gets bled off and it doesn't absorb it all, means longer lansting tranny. Though it sounds like you're lighting them up. In that case, take your dyno sheet and find a point where you could shift into second and end up just before the huge power spike but still in the power band. IIRC, yours builds at 4K, so shift at 5K and you should end up around 37-3800 or so. And, if you can figure out a way to jack your back end up, do it. That transfer of weight energy to the front helps a lot.
I may own a GTO now, but I'm still a 60V6er at heart.

I'd like to drive up there sometime, but I'm actually flying up because I have to be in Houston the next Monday and I'd never be able to drive there in time.
I work for Baker Hughes. I'll be there to do some technical training for their field hands.

Would the wet flow bench testing have to be done for every app, or can I just get my heads ported the same as yours.

Hint, when are they going to be available on the store?

No really, those are great numbers. Can't wait to see more mods.

At this time Lightspeed is working on another head design for the car, they should be tested sometime this winter. When they decide on the prefered design and offer them for sale the r&d will have already been done so you will not have to pay for the wet-flow bench r&d as I did.

I am currently looking for a 96+ Monte Z34 in a junk yard so I can strip it of it's intake manifold and all that goes with it. Then we can post hp gain results on the intake swap as well. Next up is the 13* exhaust retard, sometime over the next 2 weeks I hope. I installed the MSD DIS-4 over the weekend as was hoping to have some results for you guys but something obviously isn't right so it has to be re-intalled this week.
