Max... Sorry to hear the Red Bird is in Dry-Dock...
Going back to your original question about the possibility of this stemming from a "mechanical problem"... the only thing that has not been mentioned so far involves doing a compression check on all six cylinders (dry...then wet) to see if they are up to snuff enough to fire with power.
I'm glad to learn that Mario has made it... and is on the mend. One of our undercover guys went in for a regular check up one day (no obvious complaints) and the Doc took one look at his chest X-Ray, he asked him, "So what are you doing for the rest of today...?" Our man looked puzzled and asked back, "Why ...Wuzzup...Doc?" and smiled...and then lost that expression when the doctor pointed to a swelling just above his aortic blood vessel right at the top of his heart the size of a large grapefruit and replied, "Because you will have to cancel anything you have planned right now if you want me to save your life... If this swollen thing ruptures...you will be dead in about eight seconds!" Many hours later...they carved this bulging mess off of the top of his pump and replaced the entire vessel with some piping made of Dacron and plastic...and like Mario (God Bless em!) Denny got a whole new lease on his life! I love these kinds of happy endings, Bro... Let's Resurrect that FireBird!Last edited by 60dgrzbelow0; 03-11-2010, 12:53 AM.

lol Good old Bob. You sure know how to keep things optimistic.
Yes, Mario is doing well. He's staying at his parents house for the time being so i'm kind of in charge of his house (and the 4 hot rods enclosed within his garage, none belonging to him haha)
What this recent tuning (and success for that matter) has shown me is that it's probably NOT a mechanical issue like once thought, which is good because im sick of tearing into this thing.
Btw, I've now got an updated tune with some more VE changes so I'll be logging that asap while incorporating some logging while in gear but not going anywhere.Last edited by tkoforpresident; 03-10-2010, 10:38 PM.

I bet it's gonna be extremely rich the first time i take it out for a drive. The Base VE Cell #'s are Waaaay higher than what we're using for the idle.
guess i'm due for a new cat converter anyhow haha

Speaking of..."The FrankInjector" results.... How did you find the EFIs I sent along to you work out? How about Carl's set, too? Everything okay with what was done to both of them?
As far as the ones you sent me are concerned, I haven't had the need to install them yet (seeing as we are somewhat successfully tuning the current ones) but I would like to get them in sometime in the future.
and yes, Frankenbird was coined in your honour

I'm attaching the log to this post.
Without thoroughly looking at the log yet I'm pretty sure the blm/int is better than last time. The desired Idle rpm was set to 700 and it seemed to idle at about 875-925, at least thats what my dash was saying. It sounds really nice but i really think if we can get it dropped down to right at 800 i think this thing will sound straight nasty. At about 160* F coolant temp I held the brake pedal down and popped it in Drive. It dropped down to ~ 600 rpm right away, was shaking a good deal, never stalled out (which I was very pleased with), sounded absolutely AMAZING (for what that's worth ) but was a little too choppy for me to feel comfortable with. It also dropped the oil psi down to ~ 45 which is on the low end but still acceptable. The only thing I'm worried about is if the charging system can handle that low of an rpm. I have an epic sound system and with that going and headlights etc. I would like to see if we can up the rpm while in DRIVE by 100 -150 (if thats' possible to do)
I hope by throwing it in DRIVE and datalogging with the engine warmed up we can make some new changes with that data.
oh and finally... the cooling fan kicked on a lot sooner than it was supposed to so i'm going to look at the .bin and make sure i have it set properly.

my "expert" analysis...
fueling is still decent, BLM only dropped to 123, which is still nice.
i cannot believe how rough that cam is... 60-80 kPa idle... when the stocker would have idled from 30-35... that's only like 8-9 inches of vacuum... HVAC and power brakes may not like this...
IAC was a lot more active this time around, but that was probably due to putting it in gear.
idle learn at least started, went from 10 to 18 steps in only a few seconds... may want to do it again every once in a while to see if it changes any during the course of tuning.
spark advance was also more active, again likely due to going in gear. the ECM seems to do more to keep it alive in that situation.
that is all.

thanks Robert.
I think we are going to go ahead and call the idle fueling "DONE" so to speak. You guys should hear this car grumbling at about 650 rpm it's really something!
But, we are gonna bump that up because I think it's too low for my DD needs (charging system, reliability etc.)
So afaik one more log with the newest .bin and as long as all looks peachy we can start thinking about the next tuning step, which I'm assuming is the Base VE.
I'll log this weekend, post it up and hopefully have something for saturday night.
The corvette parked behind my bird will be moved shortly and I can either have the car towed (or i can drive it, maybe) to a nearby brake shop to have that taken care of.
Can't drive without the brakes...
