  • blocking off EGR

couldnt this potentially damage valves by causing high combustion temps?

what percentage of the incoming air-mass, averaged, are exhaust gases?

my third question is... high flow cats... yay or nay?

EGR, it wont hurt to not have it, but there is no performance gain from removing it either...

I hve no idea what you want to know about air mass.

    High flow cats are good

thanks.. but how can having MORE 02 in the incoming air charge NOT give you a gain? I'm not actually asking that for real... more curious as to what you'd say.
im gonna just guess that the valves probably can't be damaged, but combustion temps will definately exceed the point where N02 is created... and maybe thats about the only downfall..
anyway.... im gonna try it tommorow, block off that EGR and net .0046 HP at the crank.

EGR is shut off during WOT.... Only open on partial throttle when cruising.

You will get a check engine light. It knows if it's blocked off because if it doesn't see a change in MAP when it opens it, it knows it's clogged...

alot of us Jbody guys have disabled the EGR in the chip itself, no negative effects. The stock ones are reporting 30+ MPG on the highway as well..

The exhaust gases that the EGR allows to be reburned actually reduces combustion tempature when you are at a cruise. You can potentionally knock by removing the EGR. The only benefit I could see from removing it is having a cleaner engine.

            i'd edit ur sig superdave.

yeah EGR is closed at WOT. so there is no gain. EGR is used to reduce NOX emissions. I can see not using one if there is a purpose, but not using one to look for power wont help anything at all...

I dont have one because i did a 3400 swap, and instead of finding a way to use the EGR i just disabled it.

like i said, im just looking for that extra pull i'll get from the 0.0042 HP, (crank horsepower). I full-well know the purpose of egr's, and i simply don't like the idea of burnt useless exhaust gas going into my intake... it's so sinful. Anyways, who cares. I need headers. I mean, this is a daily driver family car but i cant help it... it's like fucking crack for me.

There is no .0042 horsepower to be gained,, its actually like 0.000

you dont say... well what if I put turbo air in my tires? thats got to be good for a few micro-horse power!?!
DAMN MAN... i was being sarcastic!!!

I love reading about all the shit you guys are doing, im just in no position yet to partake in the fun.... anyways, im still gonna try the turbo air.. and maybe some Silverstar headlights and a GINORMUS wing.
