  • 2002 Montans 3.4 engine swap

I have a 2002 Pontiac Montana with a bad engine. I have access to al 2004 Chevy Venture with a good engine. Will the 2004 engine interchange for my 2002 Montana?

Those years should be, with some common swapping of exterior components.

Can find anything that says it will fit. Really need to know if it will and what if anything has to be changed.

brackets may need swapping depending the config, but really if you want a direct swap in and swap out then you will find that only staying with your year make model specific engine will only be a guarantee fit.

Engine is a direct swap... but as 1988GTU stated the brackets and mounts that are bolted to the engine may differ due to the platform differences.

It helps us to know what you consider interchangeable. Simple side by side comparison between the two would answer your questions of what you would need to swap over.

I read the Family tree for these enginee. They change the pickup for the camshaft sensor and I don't know about the crankshaft sensor. The engine needs both thing to run and be in time.

If the cam sensor is different simply unbolt the one from your old engine and install it on the new one... Crank sensor is the same on all 3400s except for the Chineese-made Equinox engines.

And despite the trigger on the cam looking different it still works just fine. Just ask the 98 Transport I put a 3500 cam in years ago that's been running just fine since.

I have an 04 engine cam sensor and a 2000 style cam running on my 97 ECU... It doesn't matter.

Thanks for your insight. I bought this 04 for $300.00. But all of the interchange manuals do not show it will work. Only makes sense to me that if you change the right components that it should work. Will probably change the intake over from my 02 engine, that way the intake gaskets are new. The van is in good shape for 160 K miles.
This is the second one that I have had. The fist one was a 97 and it broke a cam. Had a engine put in that one too.

Ok, changed engines. Used injection, sensors, intake, off 2002. New intake gaskets. Started and ran 15 seconds than died. Won't start. Has 53 lbs fuel pressure at rail, good spark, will incarnate cleaner. Checked voltage to CPS and Cam sensor only has 5 volts. Help please!!

Yes, good spark. It seems that it a fuel problem.

Will run if you spray some carve cleaner in it.

Check your fuses and injectors circuits.

What's the fp at the rail at now? Do the inhectors spray while cranking?
Tach move around while cranking engine?

                              Codes?
