lol it also depends on whats wrong with the motor too... is the car body wrecked or what? if the body is good its generally a good thought that the motor is going to be fawked, or the trans or something horrible like that. and the 3800 is gonna get your ass kicked off this site i bet. lol

      Ok, I'll scrap that Idea.

Good thing though, I've been looking on my local Craigslist, and I just found a '94 Chevy Corsica with a 3.1 with only 146,000 miles.

I believe that would be a direct swap for your car.

Yah, That's what I thought. Plus, even with 146,000 miles, it's a far cry from the 250,000 that my Grand Prix has on it.

I would rather see you with a 3100 or 3400 in there myself, but if you can't find one in your price range, then you can't find one in your price range :/

This 3.1 is only $150 w/tranny. I don't need the tranny so I'm hoping I can get this for arround $75-85.

throw in some beer, everyone loves beer.

Edit: Sounds like a good choice of motor. i found a flood salvage TGP for $1,200 on that ride safely site. no body damage, but the interior was trash and the motor could definitley use a good scrubbing (if it even works or what?? i bet it isnt good for a turbo to suck water in, or be flooded with water for that matter. but could you imagine, make sure it rotates, change the oil after making sure the pistons are dry and putting new plugs and shit in and starting that bitch up?? lol think it would go? hahaha how much boost do you get off a rusty impeller?

Thanks, I think it is a good engine too! If I can get it, I'll keep ya posted on the project.

3100s are really easy motors to work on IMO. changing a water pump is a 20 minute job!! hahaha theres alot of other easy stuff you can do on them too... but thats just off the top of my head, and no rotating the motor to get the back plugs out! haha

rotating the motor: i know the 3x00s aren't supposed to do it, but if the lower mount is damaged/destroyed, you might as well... makes plugs and O2 sensor that much easier.

other easy stuff: alt, sepentine belt and tensioner, pcv valve, etc..

basically, everything that might need changed in a normal vehicles lifetime is pretty easy to get to/replace.

                        Ok, Thanks!

I emailed the guy today, and I get the engine and tranny for $150. With 146,000 miles, is that a good deal? I really want to swap out the old 2.8.

its good when people think of things in advance and make them easier with normal hand tools. whoever decided to smoke crack while designing the LQ1 needs to go to rehab and maybe tone it down to just pot or something. lol the damn thing is like a puzzle, once you figure it out its not that bad. you get used to it anyhow. but i would LOVE a motor i could easily work on, get to 75% of the maintenance shit from the top...

i wanna make a toy car now too... im thinkin of an older cavalier.... with the 2.4 Quad cam... it sounds like a fun ride to me... but i would want a red one like my lumi so i could line em up and take pics! haha

If you value life, you wouldn't clean that car up and drive it... There was a thing a long time ago where people were bringing really nice undamaged cars from Florida up this way, replacing the interior and selling them as good cars. Well, that was all fine and dandy until they started catching on fire from the electrical connections going bad from being submerged in water and insurance not replacing them because of the past flood issue.

thats my point, is that pile of mould really worth 1200?? that was the bid on it. honestly if i bid on it, it would be a parts car. but it would just be fun to play with.

You guys are getting off topic.

Anyway, I just got a 3100 for my Grand Prix. I've been told that I need to tune the 2.8L ECM to make it work for the 3100. I've emailed and PM'd Ben (WOT-Tech guy) and he hasn't emailed or PM'd me back yet. Robertisaar told me that if I don't tune the ECM, that it would run, but it might knock and have leen issues. I don't want that, but I can't tune the ECM without Ben.

What can I do? I don't think I can afford a 3100 ECM, unless I can find one for under $150.
