  • 5speed gearbox beretta and fiero the same

    like the title says,

I wonder if the transmission of a 3.1 beretta 88-92 will fit the fiero v6-2.8
    1987.

cause I wanna know if the clutches they sell for the beretta 3.1 fit my fiero
    5speed transmission ?

    thank you,bjorn

The beretta transmission is the getrag 282. If yours is a getrag, it should fit. If yours is the izuzu, no go.

Your's being an 87 and V6, I'd say it's got the getrag, but I would double check to be sure. The getrag is the best transmission for FWD cars you can have. That's the prefered trans for high horsepower mods and v8/engine swaps.

yeah, the FWD 'retta trans should work fine. you'll need to swap some stuff over, or buy the kit from rodney dickman, to use the FWD trans in the RWD fiero, i dont remember which.

That I do not know. I could probably search and find out, or you could. There is probably a metal tag on the transmission, write down the #'s and such and search on google and see what comes up..

here's a pic, you can kinda see. You get the general shape, and you can just see the end cover. it's steel, almost flat, and has 9?(i think) bolts.

              okay,

it's 5 speed getrag that's for sure now.

so now I can shop for a clutch from example a beretta, fiero, grand prix.

              thanx guys.Bjorn

this is an internally balanced 2.8 right? then yeah, you should be able to use the clutch/flywheel from any V6 J/L/N body..... a LOT of people over on V6Z24, myself included, are going with the Stage 3 EZClutch off ebay..... i dont have mine yet but i haven't heard any bad reviews....everyone seems to have really good luck.

                  actually mine is externally balanced.
                  but i don't see why i can't use those clutches ?

                  am i missing something ??

                    well guys,

after searching ebay for a clutch that can handle my mods..
I found that "xtr"sells the same clutch as gripforce

                    shitty stuff ??

                    what's in a brands name right !

I looked up your flywheel and the part numbers are different than the one for the J/L body. The mounting for the pressure plate and disk may be the same but i wouldn't take that risk.

If your engine was internally balanced like the FWD versions you could just use the FWD flywheel and clutch.

                      Time for an engine swap?

I can check if the mounting is the same cause
                        I've got a 3.1 flywheel also here from a 91 corsica.

apart from that it's only the number of splines on the shaft that's of interest
                        right ?

just got a good deal on an ebay best offer deal.
i bought the ez clutch stage 3 for 186$.

they say it should not chatter(or only minimal) and hold up to 400hp !
that should minimally hold torque numbers of up to 350-400 i guess.

good choice, i've never had a problem with my stage 3 EZ. it held my built 3400 w/o problems and i have it on my 3500 now...

there is some chatter and it's pretty on/off feeling but you'll like it.. lol

                              hey superdave...

got my clutch today and it looks okay.
it fits the getrag just fine.

only thing I noticed was that the disc is a fair bit smaller than the pressureplate surface..hmm strange.

it seems unlogicall to not use the full area.

was yours like this too ?
