  • How do I remove DTC's for OBDII Emissions??

Ok well I'm about to finish up my Beretta and I'll be running my Hybrid motor with a very large cam, now I need to remove 3 codes I think... One is because I just don’t have the parts to fix it right at the moment, BUT the three codes are the 2nd o2 sensor activity since I will not be running a second o2, there will only be one, and the other two is Multiple misfires (just in case the cam triggers it) and Incorrect purge flow, I think I have a bad flow valve.

Now what is the PROPER way to shut these off so I can still get past OBDII emissions testing? Do I go to the DTC reporting section and change the reporting to "no reporting" and leave the DTC enabled section alone? I know if you shut them off one way the car will show up as NOT READY and I don’t want that to happen, I want to bring this thing in and be done with it.

Its the purge valve and that funky flow thing right next to it right? All I know is the red car threw that code all the time with the Hybrid motor and when I put the 3100 in there I used the purge stuff from pinky and I havent seen that code since so it may have been due to the cam or due to the sensors.

I know on the OBD1 setups, you just change the value for where the DTC is tripped. For example, the EGR, you set one of the values to a number that is basically impossible to reach under any condition, and then the ECM will never throw a code even if the EGR is removed.

Unfortunately, I've never done any of this personally, so I can't tell you specifics...

Yeah OBDII there are two sections, DTC reporting, and DTC enabled, I know you can shut it off in both areas, but I've been told if you shut off both or the wrong one the car will show up as "not ready" when they plug in the code checker to do emissions... OBDI doesnt matter because they dont check that way, they do the tail pipe sniff.

I'm just not sure which section I shut off so it wont throw a code but still show up as ready.

You go into the DTC reporting section and change your specific codes to "3" for "not reporting." Leave the DTC enable section alone.

Thank you... Thats what I was gonna do but I wasnt sure if it looked to see if the code reported failures and not specifically if it was enabled or not.

That is currently how I have my second o2 code shut off on ole red right now.

Well to update this, I did that, and stupidly flashed it right before i went since I forgot to all weekend, BUT they put it on the machine and I think it came up as not ready so they just ran it on the rollers and did the tail pipe sniff, and it passed with flying colors. All good for 2 years!!!

They all know my car there and they knew this was a new one... about 6-7 people walked over to the emissions station at least once to take a look at it after they heard it pull in, and they were all like "you think it will pass" and I was like no problem! its got a cat, what more does it need?

I'm not really surprised, my other car passed with a stock motor catless, so a cat on this engine would be perfectly fine.

One its not inspection... its just emissions so they couldn't fail me for my bald front tires and burnt out rear blinker... But yes, both registration and emissions is good for 2 years. Next test due for this car is DEC 09, since the last due date was DEC 07, being unregistered allowed it to expire and not get a penalty.

Yeah here you get inspection every 2 years, but renew every year unless you pay for 2 years. Which reminds me I need to do both. Gonna have to drive out to the styx to get it inspected cause too many places stopped doing it in the city but the crooked muffler shop that comes up with the most absurd shit to fail you and make money off you. I don't like the way they treat the cars either. Beating the shit out of them and rounding off lugnuts and not tightening others, loosing lug nut caps when checking the brakes. I gotta go back and check all my lugnuts afterwards no thanks. Last straw was when my mom got her car inspected there and they failed her for a hole in the cat. I inspected it all over no hole, no leak, just a rust hole in the heat shield... big deal. So I took it back and argued, and they tried feeding me some shit that "oh I've had these cars before and once that happens, it tears up the manifolds too. We're going to have to replace the exhaust manifolds, and all the pipes on the car" I looked at him and said there's no leak, you don't know WTF you're talking about, and you're not scamming me, good bye. Arggh!! I hate that place and apparently most anyone you talk to that knows about cars knows of their tricks too. They charged my mom $25 for a mild steel exhaust clamp when they put on a muffler one time. WTF those are like $2. Yes they don't weld their mufflers they put on they use mild steel clamps but have "life time warranty" on the mufflers, that's how they get you back in there. Custom muffler my ass. Yeah it's custom alright. Custom crap!! My friend told me he went there and I said no dont do that and he said yeah I know, they gave me a list of about 40 things. LOL Sorry for the rant that was a lot of text!!! haha

emissions when i had the beretta was every other year.

the grand am is a plug in deal. they plug the machine in and 5 minutes later im on my way. no sniffer test just plug and go.

guess i got one part easier dont have to do the dyno test where they check what comes out the pipe, hell they dont even look under the car.
do they not do inspection like all the safety and lights and whatnot in CT.
