it is competition for the gto but:
gto is not sold in canada
the mustang is outselling the GTO 10:1 right now (16,000 mustangs sold per month)
the charger/challenger is competition as well... but its a rebadged 300 and is still slower than the stang.
Camaro/trans am has always been the mustangs only true competition

When i say the corvette is the only competition i mean, if someones looking for an affordable v8 sportscar... there really are only 2 choices (GTO and stang... funny thing is the Stang is being overpriced over msrp, whereas the gto is under msrp and both are selling at about 29,000, yet the stang outsells) I dont understand why, i personally would prefer the GTO. Clearly those who have the money to buy a corvette aren't going to be looking at a mustang, now its a cobra or a corvette... and that comes down to 2 seats or 4. GM's falling behind very quickly, the cobalt could save them but other than that.....

the charger is not a rebadged 300, it has completley different sheetmetal and is and avg. 5k less and not really direct competition, the charger is a full size sedan where as the mustang is a coupe. the only way they are similar is the drivetrains are somewhat similar, as in RWD v8, but I believe the charger is about 6k more in price. but yes is one of the few options for an american RWd v8 at a reasonable price (around 30k), and yes you're right that the camaro/firebird was the only competition for the stang (in my lifetime anyways). Gm should pump up the monte carlo a lot more, let another GM car kick the mustangs ass for a while. Monte carlo would be sick with an LS1
I wish 10% of the people on the road knew how to drive

The Cobalt is great, but it is a compact. By that it is no more than a Civic on steroids. Thier is no luxury their at all, just cheap plastic. If all you want is juice under the hood then great. But if you want juice and a nice ride over all, you are screwed with GM. Unless you want a corvette. But the Corvette is a borderline undrivable on normal roads and has zero space for anything.
