Well I guees that where the line is.

I would rather go buy a box of bends and make a set of headers. I also have fun hitting up the junk yard for an e-fan and some Fiero valve covers. I think its funny going into the machine and having them ask "What the hell are you doing that for?"

"Well sir I want to put 2 sealed roller bearing into this throttle body to stop vacuum and boost leaks."

Then they reply "Yea ok that makes sense"

I can still buy everything I need for my engine. I might have to look it up for another application. But it is still there. So I think I have all the aftermarket I need. Plus like I said before. This engine is not a scarce motor. It is getting bigger and badder with the new linup of cars using the 3900 and the 3.6L VVT so expect to see more in the future.

there are alot of good points on here. i like the uniqueness of fabbing or having some1 fab my own one-off part. but making a part and lording it over the rest of the community isn't going to help the community.

there is another element missing from the equation of need for bolt-on parts. alot of the members have ideas, do research but don't work in machine shops for a living and simply don't have the skill to fabricate their own parts. if i tried to make my own headers it would be a waste of money and time.

i am skilled enough to install most any part and make brackets and like a novice thing like using the electric welder and sheet metal to seal up my air filter. but i think that is abou tthe extent of my fabricating skills.

but it is a double-edged sword IMO i like the fact that the dohc community is smaller and individual ingenuity is encouraged but with a smaller following comes little to no involvement from larger companies. i wish the 3.4 dohc had the aftermarket of say the 3.8. that'd be nice but not flooded like the 1.6 and 1.9 honda engines.
