Ok, I've been looking around and found some engines that I may like. One engine that I like is a 1984 3.8L out of an El Camino or a 1985 and 1986 4.3L both remanufactured from a company. The 85 says its good for a carb and the 86 says its good for carb and Fuel Injection. Please help me in knowing what one is better for my 1984 Camaro. Thanks.

The fastest 60* V6 is 12.6, in a 3rd gen f-body (3.1liter)
The fastest street car with a 3800 in a fourth gen is 11.78.
The fastest 3800 full drag car is hitting 9.58.
If that's not right, I don't know what is .Last edited by ForcedFirebird; 06-16-2007, 04:29 PM.

60* motors run smoother, rev higher and seem to really eat up the boost. I suggest you find a 4th gen f-body with a 3.4 and swap out your short block, otherwise you will also be shopping for a tranny because the 60*tranny won't bolt to the early 3.8's or any 4.3. You can however bolt a 3800 (1996 or later) to the tranny, but then you are talking about fabbing motor mounts etc.

ARI has rebilt kits that will stroke your 2.8 to a 3.1, IIRC they are around $400.

Are you referring to F-Body cars only? I know a 3800 GP drag car ran a 9.01 @ 150.55 last fall. I'm not sure where the quickest streetable car is actually a Bonneville, if I remember right. It ran a 10.7 @ 125.7.
Though, even at that, a '98 Firebird (drag car) has run a 9.50 @ 136.95.\"NASCAR is an integral part of my life. A part of me died when Dale Earnhardt died.\"
1997 Olds CS 4-door S/C - 183,527 miles
1999 Chevrolet Lumina 3100 - Wife took it at 158,340 miles
1989 Volvo 740GL Wagon 2.3 8v - 232,050 miles

I'm not on FTV6 much. Guys' name is Tim King, is all I know. All Intense stuff in that car. Got to see it built. Definitely a fun, fun car. I hold the opinion that in general an F-Body need V8 power. Though, those pesky little turbo 6's can definitely be something!\"NASCAR is an integral part of my life. A part of me died when Dale Earnhardt died.\"

So besides the 2.8, is there any engine that can be dropped in with little or no modification. If there is can anyone let me know, and what might be required to drop it in and what years and vehicles that they can be pulled from. Thanks.A GOOD FRIEND WILL BAIL YOU OUT OF JAIL, BUT A TRUE FRIEND WILL BE SITTING NEXT TO YOU SAYING,"DAMN THAT WAS FUN."

Any 3rd gen (82-92) f-body 2.8/3.1 short block (full engine if you can find a carb motor).
Or you can use the short block from a 4th gen f-body (92-94).
