lq1 info needed

  • lq1 info needed

    i just came across a guy who started to swap in an lq1 into his camaro but ran into a few issues.

    they are all pretty minor

    #1 hitting heater box
    #2 wiper motor clearnace
    #3 ac and alt hits subframe
    #4 oil filter hits starter
    i dont run heat or ac in my car so #1 is not an issue for me
    my wipers dont work so i have no problem pulling out the motor

    the ac compressor i will just remove, but the alt mount is part of the front engine cover.
    can the alt be moved or custom brackets fabbed

    oil filter whats the options to move it besides a remote mount.

    does anyone know the tq converter bolt pattern on the lq1 flex plate

    im looking into this to do a swap into my f-body turbocharged of course

    so noone knows about moving the alt mounts or has the dimensions on the flex plate for this motor??

      how does the alt and ac hit the subframe? they are mounted pretty high, especially the alt.

      if you have the old style starter, it always hits the oil filter if you try to remove it. but once you get it all put together i do not see that as a problem.

        hmm i was told they are mounted low, guy on thirdgen stared swaping one in.

        are the accesorys mounted differently depending on the year or what the motor came out of?

          found a low milage 96 dohc motor for 400 bucks complete with harness for 450 bucks.
          good deal? or should i hold out

            wow if i had the $$$ and a car to put it in, yeah id take it. sorry about the above, i didn't know they mounted so low. could you engineer a mount spacer or does hood clearence become a problem then?

              need to do custom mounts anyway, so i wont know till i actually have the motor in my hands.

              im deff ditching the ac compressor so thats no worry, but i do have to have an alt, though im sure it wont be that hard to move.i was just curious if anyone has done ti before.

              when it comes down to it i want the motor setback as far and low as possible

              one other ? are the heads the samefrom side to side, i seeone side has a nice cover buit the other side is kinda ugly. id liek to get 2 of the front covers to use if they will bolt on

              heres a pic of the swap the one guy started. iirc he said he droped it in on the factory mounts.

                This motor was built by Steven Snyder, he is on the forums from time to and I think he has one of the best looking LQ1's around. Notice he has used two back covers.

                  dam that looks really good,anyways i was up at my friends shop today and he knows somone who used to specialize in 3.4 dohc swaps into fireos and builds custom manifolds and some other parts for these motors.

                  so sometime this week im gonna go over there with my friend and talk to the guy, and see what i can pickup for my build

                      so far it looks like im going for it,unles ssomone can give me any good reason to not use this motor.
                      i would love to drop a t5 in the car buttttt it will never live up at the drag strip,i have a hard enough time keeping built 700r4's alive.

                      that and since i mostly drag race the car the auto with high stall will be alot faster then the t5 would be even if it would hold up

                        why not mod the subframe to clear the alt?

                            the one guy who is attempting this swap was saying if i move the motor foward a lil bit everything will clear.
                            but this then means trans x member and some other mods need to be done

                              couldn't you just modify the tranny x member and the motor mounts so that everything moves an inch fordward?
