i was thinking about it and came up with this:

if the motor was already bouncing off of the rev limiter, adding starting fluid wouldn't raise the RPMs at all, it would just change the AFR slightly, maybe a SLIGHT change in the tone of the motor.

i think that validates the gigantic vacuum leak theory even more....

Not only that you would have to see the line being pinched once you took the injector cover off. I can't say much though, I've pinched mine as well.

how can you see the line if its pinched between the rear valve cover and the bottom part of the UIM with just the injector cover off? you cant even see the back three injectors with it off!! lol

im not sayin im right, im just sayin its worth checking out, and i couldnt find mine pinched untill i took the UIM right off again and when i loosened the last bolt it lifted a little on the passenger side, so i lifted it out while looking and saw the vacuum line squashed under it. it was fine, but by being squashed its like having no vacuum or maybe even a positive pressure from the air heating up, my guess is this wouldnt be good for the fuel pressure. hes got the same symptoms and he just had the intake off, its a pretty easy mistake to make.

ill bet my lunch money on it.

I was thinking the line was on the front side, not the rear (which would explain why it's so easy to do on these things :P). It's been a few years since I've had to do anything to either of my cars and I am tired this late at night :P

the uim has not been off recently, thats what makes this so unusual. every now and then the idle would bump up to 1500 or so but drop back down soon after driving it around. the iac was my first idea but the ses never came on. like i was told it should have tripped the code once it exceeded the +/- 500 mark. so the pinched line theory doesn't apply here.

ok ur probably right, but i would still take it off just to have a look there.

-does anyone know what happens when an FPR goes bad? i know if you pull the vacuum line gas will come out if its bad, but what will it do when the motor is running?

if the FPR is bad and the vacuum line is hooked up to it, it will suck a LOT more fuel in than it intended. it wouldn't explain the 3K RPM idle.

and codes would probably get set quickly as well....

Sure sounds like LIM gasket to me, OR a BIG vac leak. When mine went (LIM) it idled REAL high, over 2,000, when cold. At -5 degrees that is fatal!! When it warmed up it ran fine. He said it did that at one point before it got this bad. Mine NEVER threw any codes for the LIM or FPR (twice on FPR). It DID throw EGR codes once, different prob tho.. I agree that if it's already hitting the Rev limiter the Ether might not affect the idle, or lack of..
When the FPR went it would start when COLD but not hot.. The first time I didn't get gas in the vac line, but it wouldn't hold pressure. The second time it did both...
The UIM/LIM gaskets are pretty cheap for these,, might be worth a look???
                  Good luck,,
                  Tom..

well i pulled the uim off real quick put it all back together and it's still tachin 3. the only thing that remotely slows it dow is pulling the maf. soooooo i'll tear it all apart again. is there any way to test the fpr for malfunction.

i know on the 3100 you can pull the vacuum line while its running and if its bad, fuel will squirt out... i don't know if you can reach that on the 3.4....

With the UIM off, hook a vacuum pump to it and pump away. If it leaks down it's bad, if it holds steady, it's good. I found a bad one on a 3.1 this way once.

yeah theyre pretty covered by the uim. it covers the whole rear part of the fuel rail, all three rear injectors, makes it a pain in the ass to take out the back plugs, shit... what good does it do? lol

make retarded amounts of power above 4K RPM?
