Ok, I just need to clear a few things up:
In regards to the cam sensor. Are you saying I need to GET a pigtail or just use my cam sensor from the 3400 that has a pigtail?
Since there are different accessories, do I need to swap timing covers then? And will I have to purchase the 24x crank sensor or does one of the engines already have this and all I need to do is swap them? Also, does the case relearn have something to do with the PCM?
Yes CASE Relearn is a pcm procedure
I really appreciate the help, I was just a little unclear by what you meant in regards to those things. Thanks for the pictures! Pics def help me alot.
Also, I don't have the 3500 yet, its on its way. I am not sure if it will have the G6 bracket on it or not. If not, can the slight angle difference be modified slightly to make to make it work?

yeah it was kinda fun for me. It wasn't my daily driver so I wasn't too stressed and/or hurried with it. Took me about a total of 5-6 evenings to get it all done and back together. You'll love to results.
Make sure you do what you can with the engine before you put it in. i.e. front and rear seals, timing cover gasket, intake gaskets, new water pump and gasket, sensors, etc... So much easier to sit on a nice roller chair and get all this done while the engine is on a stand. Only thing I had to do while it was on the hoist was to change the rear seal and put the flexplate back on. Oh and changing the main shaft seal in your transmission is a great idea while you have access to it.

Yeah, I plan on starting it after new years. I'll have about 2 weeks off from school to get it done. It is my daily driver but I have another vehicle to use while I'm working on it. If I had the money, I would put all new sensors, new gaskets and new seals in but I have spent a good deal of money as it is already on this project. I have to keep in mind the fluids (oil and coolant) and the gasket I will def have to replace (UIM). I might go ahead and do the water pump though, just to be safe. I also think I am going to do a tranny pan drain and filter change. I've only had the car since febuary and I have no idea if it ever had it done before I owned it. Just seems like a smart thing to do, especially since I'll be putting a little more HP through it.Last edited by finalcount09; 12-18-2010, 07:08 PM.

I'm half way done with this swap and need a little help. I am starting to get a list together of parts that I need to buy. I was wondering if I can buy a serpentine belt for my grand am, would it work on the 3500 or do I need to buy a 06 G6 belt? Didnt know if there was any difference between the two.

The G6 belt is longer than the GA belt. Since boom spaced his A/C out, if you go the same route as him you will probably need to get a belt for a G6.-60v6's 2nd Jon M.

Nevermind. Did a little bit of searching and found out it is. I should have figured it out on my own seeings how that wire from the CPS runs up and connects to the coil packs. I guess I wasn't thinking right.
On another note, about this whole CASE relearn procedure, what is the easiest, wallet friendly way to go about doing that?

to determine the belt length, just use a length of rope stretched all around and then go to dayco website to do a dimensional lookup to get a part #. Input this at Autozone or Advance or Napa or somewhere and try it out.

As for the CASE relearn, if you dont have a programmed pcm just go to a dealer with a TECH2 unit.

Also, my 3500 came with the fuel rail and included harness. I was planning on cutting the CTS portion off of the 3500 harness (since I wont be using it) and then cutting my 3400 harness and splicing the longer 3500 wire w/plug into it. The plugs are the same and the color of the wires in the harness are the same. It just seems like an easier solution then taping into the thermostat housing IMO.
