  • Compression Ratio Calculator

Its still a work in progress, but I think it is good enough now for people to start using...

Decided to create a site specific CR calculator, or even just a place for people to look up various values for the different engines. I don't have everything entered yet, mainly because I don't have all of the data, but it is close to being complete. I just need Ben to get some more measurements for me and we can probably complete the database.

You can access the calculator from the left hand menu, all the way at the bottom under Miscellaneous. To use it, just select the engine you want to use and if you want an overbore or not. If you just want to use the default values, or just see the default values, then click on the "Calculate with Default Values" button (duh). Keep in mind that it will take into account any overbore that you enter. If you want to enter your own values, you can select the engine you want to use as well. This will provide you with the defaults as a go-by, but all values must be entered regardless. This is handy for testing different piston combinations, head gasket thicknesses, chamber volumes, etc...

Like I said, it is still a work in progress. This is my first attempt at programming with PHP and Java from scratch, so its pretty simple. But it works, so have fun with it. Maybe I can get one of the more talented programmers on here to put together a better version of it (and maybe one that even integrates with the site itself!).

I took the leap and decided to learn some vBulletin integration... So now this program is even cooler!! I still need to make a couple gramatical corrections, but for the most part, it is done. Oh yeah, and I still need to enter the other variables for the rest of the engines.

Click on the link at the bottom of the Site Navigation menu to check it out.

Thanks for your hard work, the CR calculator is a very useful tool for the site.

I'm in the process of integrating the CR Calc into the Wiki instead of the forum. You can find the new version here. I haven't changed the link on the wiki navigation yet because I haven't gotten the "own data" calculation working properly yet. I've been messing around with AJAX programming lately, so I will probably just end up re-writing the entire script in order to make it all work.

So, for the time being, keep using the old version, but know that a new version is in the works. Hopefully I will be able to get all the engine data entered as well (with Ben's, and anyone else's help of course!). Just wanted to put it out there though, for any input, comments suggestions, etc. Thanks!

          I think I broke it.

Hmmm... Guess I forgot to put that part back in. I should be able to find a few minutes today to try to get that in there for you.

Not that I necessarily need it, but I often use the calc to remind me of measurements in the different 660's and noticed cc's was gone.

It was faster than trying to calculate each cyl, then multiplying, I'm lazy
