  • Anything else I should do with new heads?

I just got a 95 olds cruiser wagon with the 3100 and blown head gaskets. I'm going to get remanufactured heads for it and was wondering if there is anything else that's not too hard or costly that folks would recommend doing before the heads go on?

So far every shop online and on ebay that I've seen selling reman heads doesn't differentiate the 3100/3400, they just say it fits both. How do you tell the difference?

Ricky, how much and what's your location? Also, why selling? What did it come off of?

I wouldn't pay 300 bucks for a set of heads off ebay. I bought a set once and they were the worst rebuild ever. Painted over oil, 1 angle valve job, milled with a sanding table so it wasn't perfect.

Great Ben, now I should be scared of cheap heads on ebay. Did the seller you worked with have low feedback? I have been looking at a couple with 99+% feedback. Seems like people would have complained?

What is a fair price for a set of reman heads to a stock level (not performance)?

Do you have any recommendations of places? I don't have much money to spend. This is for a family car.

He had a lot of good feedback, and I even left some. It wasn't until months later that I tore them down that I noticed how bad they were. There is a place in florida, i think clearwater that sells rebuilt heads. They may be better but still, $300 range for a set.

What happened to the heads that are on the engine now? Can't you mill them and do a valve job and put new seals on them? That would be cheaper.

I agree just re and re the heads. You don't even need to touch them if they are still in spec.
