  • Ball milled valve cover interest

Back in June, I met a guy at a cruise-in with an '88 Cavalier with a 2.8. Super clean car with around 12K miles on it. He asked me to ball mill a valve cover for him and has been very patient waiting, only stopping by every 3 to 4 weeks to check the progress. Yesterday, I decided to get it out of the way and this is what I ended up with. I'm thinking about making a couple for myself because I really don't like the GEN3 covers and don't have the time to make billet valve covers right now. I am planning to recut the seal area so it will seal on the newer engines and will have a bung welded in for an oil fill on the front cover.

For the pic, I just used a red Sharpie to fill in the red but Bob plans to polish the flat area and have the letters filled with blue to match the color scheme of his car. I thought about making these for resale but would need to see what the cost would be to get permission from GM since I really don't want any copyright troubles.

If there is interest, I can try to find out what it would take to make it happen.

Yea they look nice. Too bad I can't use them. Oh and if you were to sell em they should be clear coated to inhibit tarnishing and oxisization. Or just tell anyone who buys them to give them a couple coats of clear engine enamel for protection.

I was thinking about having them black powder coated before I machined the flat face and ball milled them. Afterwards, paint the letters and clearcoat the flat area. They would be offered in two versions, standard GEN2 or recut seal groove to fit GEN3 with an oil fill welded in.

agree on the 60* logo or something similar; not a Chevy enthusiast here

looks really good, though! Just curious here, do you think there would be a difference in your cost for having a design with the Pontiac logo slapped on 'em? Or is it too much of a pain in the rear to have a few designs like that?

either way, though, I'd be willing to buy a set with the 60* mark.
