  • Experience with anti pump-up lifters?

Has anyone swithched to anti pumpup lifters? Is it worth the money? If so, who makes them?

RE: Experience with anti pump-up lifters?

when you are doing a performance build up, or even just a cam swap, its worth the money to put in good lifters. the ones in my motor are comp cams, crane also makes them.

Which lifters did you buy? I bought the "high energy" ones. They don't seem to be anti pump up lifters. I don't see any anti pump up lifters on comp's website for the 60 v6.

No they probabally dont make them. But like I said you wont want them unless you are truly running a race engine that will normally operate above 5000.

High Energy lifters are great street lifters.

Its either hydrolic or solid type. GM power manual recomends piddle valve lifters. Seal power PN# AT-992. Pure solid lifters are not recommended due to it leaking on the pushrod seat.

I'm not a fan of anti pump ups due to having different leak down rates down the stretch and some not pumping up when they should.

has anyone looking into overboring the lifter bores and using LS1 lifters? I have no idea if its possible but you know the LS1 has an aftermarket.

I don't see why we can't mod our "current" lifters. Seen some aftermaket lifters with a Pin hole in the bottome center to oil the cam lobe. Looks better than our "sometimes I oil the cam..sometimes I don't" slot. I've seen them just loading the sping where it has .01 to go and machen a new locking clip there so it would be a sub hydrolic lifter..but only pumps up for that .005-.01. Or just take out the check ball and keep the spring in there.

I would think it would be kinda ifffy to bore out our lifter bores as there little space between them. Care to be the first?

Probably not if they are too close. I don't know though, its been a while since I starred at lifter bored in the block.

Just run a lifter from Comp Crane or GM. All will do an excellent job. By changine fromone brand to another you wont notice any difference. But don't run a fast bleed or anything like that

Rhodes lifter will modify any hydralic lifter. (if it can be dissassenbled) To act just like a regular Rhodes lifter. Set of 24 lifters for the DOHC motor was $125.00+ shipping. So I'd imagine 12 would be around $70.00+ shipping. With a week turn around time.

I wonder how that would work out with my 48 gram lifters. Very interesting Did you notice any difference?

                          If you can modify...

a rhodes lifter then wouldn't it be possible to run a 220° cam and smog it too? (By the way the degree sign is alt+248.) I read they decrease duration by 10° at low rpm.

I haven't tried it on the 3.4DOHC. I have run them in a radical SB chevy that wouldn't idle in drive with stock lifters. Changed over to a set of Rhodes lifters. Vacuum at idle went up and would idle in drive. Made it very streetable as a daily driver.

i had rhodes lifters in my 66 GTO. they helped, but the side affect was a little noisy when warm at low rpm. still, maybe worth it if you have a big cam.
