  • Most a 3400 has been bored over?

    Anyone know what the most a 3400 can be bored over safely? For a N/A setup.

    1.50mm, or .060" over i think. it shoud be the same for all the 60* blocks exept fot bowties and prototypes.

      Sadly, boring a 3400 even 0.060" over brings it to just over 3400cc, since it initially starts out around 3350ish.

        oh that sucks. so .060 wouldn't be even close to being a 3.5

          this might be a stupid question but if 3100 and 3400 are the same block, to make a 3100 a 3400 it would have to be bored .120 over so technically couldnt a 3100 be bored .180 over of a 3400 can be bored .060 over???or am i just way off about that?

                  The 3400 block is cast with larger cylinder bores.

                    look at it this way, the 3100 block is like a 3.1l gen 2 block, and the 3400 is like a 3.4l f-body block.

                      ok thanks...this is a little off the subject but are the RWD and FWD blocks the same b/c....would a THM200 from a 80's firebird work on a gen3 3100???

                        the starter on the rwd blocks are on the right/ passanger side of the block, and the fwd blocks have the starter on the driver/front/left side of the block. One or both of the dowel pins in the back of the block for the transmission are in a different location too I beleave. not sure if all the thm200's got the aluminum torque converter covers but you would have to modify that for starter clearance too if you bolt it too a gen III block.

                          i think mev from JBP bored 1 over to 3.8l. i remember seeing a post on v6z24.com a year ago saying that.

                            To just bore a 3400 to 3.8L, you'd need about 5.5mm overbore (.216in) giving you 3763cc (rounds to 3.8L).

                              They use their crank to get 3.8L, not the bore.
