  • Eaton m90 on a 3.1mpfi

Sorry to have to make this post because I know it has been discussed on here several times before, but I failed to find what I needed to know on the site search. Anyways, I have a 93 Beretta with a 3.1 and the god awful th125 tranny. Getting down to business I am wanting to go McGavin style and mount an m90 on the top of my 3.1. What I am wanting to know is will the m90 fit on the plenum, and still line up with my belt? I know i've seen pictures of it before, but I can't locate those pictures at the time being either. Another thing, I have the 3 speed auto which means I'm going to need to have a kickdown on the throttle body. So my next question is what to do about throttle bodies? Would it be best to use an L67 throttle body and try to modify it to accept my current linkages, or should I find a way to mount a 62mm tb meant for a 3.1? I've got a few other questions too, but the main one is mounting the sc and keeping good belt alingment. Thanks.

PS - I realize there is a lot of downside to this, but I am prepared to handle that. I'm good at body work, so I'll make a bigger hood instead of going without or cutting a hole. I just want this car to be decently quick, I love it to death, but its so slow.

What about mounting it behind the plenum instead of on top?

There really isn't room behind. Especially with the MFPI plenum. With a 3x00 plenum it would be very tight in a Beretta, but pretty much impossible with the MPFI.

As far as aligning the belt with everything, as long as you mount it aligned, it will align. The only thing that would make it NOT align is if you made it not line up. Since you have to create the mounting location, it is up to you to get everything to align properly.

Well it is sort of looking like I cannot get the super deal I suspected on the m90. But I think I may reserve my ideas for a tgp set up and do it correctly - rather than a junkyard super cheapy sc contraption. Brad, I appreciate you're giving an unbiased viewed, especially since I know you don't favor that method.

          What about a m62 from 92-95 series 1 L67's?

Don't mean to hijack the thread, but it seems to be petering out, so... I'm actually thinking pretty well the same setup, but with a 3.4 on my Stalker. To the rear of the engine is a clear shot for 16 inches or so- except for the distributor. I'm thinking that I could mount a Weber DCOE back there. I've got the fab skills to make the custom aluminum manifold and carb adapters, but have a few questions you guys may be able to help me with:

-I'll need to convert to a distributorless ignition. What's my best inexpensive bet on that?

-What sort of boost will the stock internals withstand without intercooling, water injection or lowering of the compression ratio? I've heard figures from 6 to 12 inches. I want something that will be reliable given the proper A/F mixture and timing.

            - With headers. ARI stage 2, 1.6 rockers and an Edelbrock lower manifold, my guess is that this setup will be good for 250 HP (crank) at a lower boost, and up to 300 if I want to live dangerously. Does that sound about right?

-Any thoughts on the M-90 versus M-62? 3.4 liers could go either way.

            Thanks guys,

            Berk

From what I gather, the M90 is more efficient...

The M90 spins a few thousand rpm less than the m62 to make the same boost.
But the m62 is smaller. so, it can fit injectors better. on the s/c series 1's the injectors fit on the lower intake manifold. the m90 dosen't have enough room on the lower intake manifold to put injectors pointing in an optimal position.
thats on 90 degree engines though, so you guys w/ 30 degrees less to work with might be able to fit a m62 a little better.
not all m62's are the same the 94-95 ones came with teflon coated rotors and is more efficient

Hey Kreb. Since you have an iron head 660 then why not buy a Fageol? It bolts right in, includes the lower manifold, will work with a distributor, has EGR and is an extremly efficient blower.

614 streets will be selling kits as soon as they are in stock. I am buying the same for my TBI truck.

3 reasons not to get the fageol:

                    -I don't have the $

-With the carb and air filter it'll be too tall

                    - I'm not sure that it is really big enough for a 3.4 (I could be wrong about this one)

Thus the M-62. They're cheap used. I just need to figure out a cheap way to go crank-fired.

                      Money I can understand

The Fageol sits lower than a stock intake I believe.

The Fageol will easily feed a 3.4L. Just pick your pulley of choice and go for it
