I could really use all the advice you guys have to offer. I've been looking around the forum a lot and reading as much about my 3400 engine as I can.

I was going under the hood today to check for vacuum leaks and there are none, but I snapped these pictures just so you can see the setup I'm working with.

I am new to engine's, but I'm learning as much as I can. I refuse to screw this engine up. I am thinking about some top end and exhaust modifications. I have heard the intake manifold is the first cause of restriction in airflow in this engine.
Is it worth a port/polish of the intake manifold? or swap a 3500 top onto it? If you also notice in the picture behind the heat shield, the exhaust headers look very restrictive on this engine. They go outwards a couple inches and then take a sharp 90degree turn. It doesnt look like a free-flowing header at all.

Can anyone point me in the right direction here? I really want to learn so I can start doing some of my first actual engine mods. Appreciation in advance.

Heres some more information if it helps, I was trying to get into tuning, but then realized how hard it was with OBDII. Oh well. Turns out I cant tune much with my ElmScan Compact.
