I have an 89' Camaro 2.8 with MPFI. I intend to use the motor in a little Tbucket/Track roadster...which means a mostly or entirely exposed motor. For the forseeable future, the engine will remain stock. The only mods planned are a set of lake or zoomie style headers with baffles, and a bit hotter coil. I know the intake manifold sections are a performance weak link.....
- Since I'm going to be removing at least the upper and middle sections for painting an putting on Fiero valve covers, would it be worth while having those sections ported? Would it be worthwhile pulling the lower section and having it ported?
- More and more, I'm considering swapping out the MPFI set up for a carburation set up. Between the MAF sensor and all the ECU related wiring, I just don't like the look of the clutter on an exposed engine.
- Are there any of the older factory carburation manifolds that will work on this engine? What would be a good carb for them?
- I know Edlebrock makes a manifold for the ironheads. What is a reasonable price for a used one? What would be a good simple carb for use on one of those.
- Is there a way to modify my distributor to work without the ECU?
- What would be the most cost effective distributor set up for a non-ECU engine?
