Don't know if any one has had the G6/Malibu crank beside the Mini Van crank before?
had the two side by side tonight and noticed that they are quite different. going to try to weigh them soon and see how much of a differance there is! Just some thing to think about when you look for your next 3500!

Yes just showing the diferance between the two and providing a referance. The forged has more meat to it!

just thinking that for a budget/street build the van engine may be a better way to go for less rotating mass (provided it is lighter)

Rotational Mass wont necessarily coincide with actual mass. If the counter weights are further out from the crank centerline on either one, it would be a higher rotational mass even if the crank itself is lighter.

Wonder if theres a way to measure this?

          7484 crank = 49.0 lbs

          0431H09 crank = 43.2lbs

the counter weights are the same distance from the center of the crank (just a quick measurement), but the weights on 0431H09 cover more distance around the crank.

What beach did those wash up on? Lol, those things are are rusty.

Yeah, there's been tons of discussion on the forged/cast 3500 cranks. Thanks for sharing the pics!

My understanding was that both are cast but the 04 is steel. Not forged

If it's cast, not sure why there would be so much machining on the bob weights. Castings can be very close intolerance compared to forging, normally don't see bob weigh cheeks machined on cast cranks (in steel or iron).

Just looked back 7484 is the steel one and the 04**** (which I mistaked as cast steel) is a iron boat anchor. Yes your right, the wide parting line on the 7484 indicates forged. AT LEAST I HOPE its forged.
