  • Right turbo for 3500?

I have an opportunity to buy a Borg Warner s200sx turbo with a divided T4 flange, I'm wondering if this is a good size for a 3500. I'm mostly worried about it being too small for making a good amount of power.

Torre has a whole turbo kit for sale. Ask him about his Garrett

If that's the setup that just went up for sale it says he'll only sell the whole kit and I won't be able to use the manifolds or exhaust.

Take the time to learn how to read turbo compressor maps. They aren't as hard as they appear at first glance.

Once you know how to read the maps you can find a turbo that fits perfectly for your application. There will be several turbos that will work for your setup however, some will be more efficient at higher RPM, some lower.

For my 3100v6 I found the T04E-50 was ideal. It entered boost quickly at lower RPMs and held good efficiency all the way up to redline. But if I wanted to go past 6000 RPM, I would need a bigger turbo.

The T04E-50 is too small for the 3500, because it was barely just large enough for the 3100. Too small for the 3400 even. But I hit boost early and spools up quickly.

ALternately, I could've picked a larger turbo but then the spool time would be much longer and boost won't kick in as fast. Though the efficiency at higher RPM is better.

It really depends on what you want to do. If you have a daily driver in the city, get a smaller turbo with best efficiency at lower boost rpms. If you want a track car, pick a turbo that has peak efficiency where your engine makes the most power in the higher RPMs.
