  • 3400sfi died

the 3400sfi in my 2000 grand am gt died and I am looking for a replacement. I have found several reputable re-manufacturers (like jasper) but very few sources for a high performance 3400sfi and since the cost is not much different and I would just spend money on modding it anyway I would rather get a hi-po reman/rebuild if possible. Does anyone here know of a reputable hi performance rebuilder of 3400sfi engines besides milzy. I am not trying to not go to milzy, just looking for options right now.

    Any help is really appreciated.

    Thanks

You have my input on the other forum, but honestly like I said, I am not sure if that MMS engine comes with new pistons and bearings and all the stuff it should. It looks like he is trying to sell a stock cleaned up engine for $1500. There is no explanation, and he does not even have the best track record either. Mention of his name/site is grounds for smiting on this site even....heh.

      What he said

You best bet is to get the block cleaned up, bored, honed, milled, lined and tanked, then order your performance parts, pistons, cam/sbc cam bearings, heads ported, intakes, and gaskets and have someone you can trust to assemble it.

I found my 3400 from car-part.com 750 and they delivered it to my friends shop.I used it for almost 4 years without any issues. Then i had jon rebuild it and added a custom cam and ported 3500 parts=) If the block wasn't trashed to begin with it shouldn't need to be lined. But if you wanted to while it's there for the shop to check it.All i can say is thank god for jon.He saved me money in many ways.

Buy a 3500 and throw a cam in it. I bought my 3500 with 30K miles for $450 last August.

This is another good idea.Considering how many cheap 3500 are around now.Alittle more work but another good idea also.

if that's true then inflation is truly a bitch.. i'd hope he would at least go through it and replace all the bearings and gaskets. but given his latest history i wouldn't touch it.

and given that he doesn't take 5 minutes to write an explanation on the page would steer me away from buying anything from him.
