Hello 660 folks!
Two summers ago, I built and installed a GMPP HT3.4 in my 1986 S10 with a 5 speed. Mods have included a 400 cfm Holley TBI unit, ported bore matched intake, MSD coil, Edelbrock headers, and a no cat flowmaster exhaust. The rest of the mods are too small to list as something considerable. I am running it on a stock 2.8 tune, which isnt optimum but still runs great. I absolutely love the setup the way it is.
I have been pondering the idea of forced induction for the last few months. I had a few members from various forums point me in the right direction for a turbo. I had everything I needed to know... a parts list, how to, and everything. I have stepped away from that plan as I dont have any welding skills at all yet (I'm only 17) and I wasnt looking to build the fasted iron head 3.4 on the planet... plus the fact that my income is not sufficient enough to pay for all the needs of building a turbo.
Then I started looking into the good old Fageol Supercharger. I know many say it is too small for a 3.4. While this is true using a bone stock Fageol, it is not true on a modified one... and it has been proven that the Fageol can run a sufficient amount of charge into a 3.4. I know I will never make the power of a turbo, but this is simpler, cheaper, and cleaner looking as a end result. Top speed isnt everything in a S10.
I found a Fageol for a decent price and it arrived at my door yesterday. It is in great shape. It is a used unit, so when it arrived I tore the entire thing apart and inspected every last millimeter of it... and it is easy to tell it was used, but the internals have no play at all, which is what really matters. It just needs a nice clean-up and a good glass bead on the manifold and it will look like new.
(a little mock-up with the carb adapter on top with the old 2.8 TBI)
The mods I will perform while the build are as follows: P/P heads, MSD Digital 6AL, 1.6:1 roller rockers, crane lifters, a 2" to 2-1/2" spacer between the blower and the manifold (proven to cool the system considerably and actually raise boost pressure), and a tuned Bar-2 PCM with wideband.
Other mods that are no thrill are an electric fan, and power steering delete. I will only end up running 4 pulleys... the crank, water pump, alternator, and the blower. I will use the Fageol cog setup to ensure no slippage... and Mark at Fageol can make me a custom sized blower cog to feed more charge.
I am definately going to need a cowl hood... which only looks even better as a end result. And trust me, I certainly will not forget to fancy up the motor with bling!!!
