    You absolutely sure it's a 4T40E? Because all the other N-bodies of that year with V6's had the 4T45E. The grand am GT and SE V6 both had 4T45's just with different final drive ratios. The only one that had a 4T40E was the 4 cylinder SE automatic. Look at your RPO code list. If there is an MN4 in there it's a 4T40E. If it says MN5, it's the 4T45E.

      the 3400 are mated with a 4t45e..usually the 3100s are mated with the 4t40e. it's a malibu..and malibus usualllllllly carry a 4t40e. if it wasn't a 40e i would honestly be shocked to high hell. as far as i know its a 40e w/ 3.05 fdr

        Easiest way to tell is check the RPO code list. Should be in the trunk somewhere, usually underside of the spare wheel cover.
