I took my 3400 powered Fiero to the dyno yesterday. The results were better then I had expected. The car put down 177.5 hp @ 5020 rpm and 206.7 ft. lbs. @ 4125 rpm @ the wheels. This is a completely stock '02 3400 running on a '95 Firebird OBD 1.5 ECM. We are at a pretty high altitude here. The dyno program also has a feature to correct the numbers to a more "standard" altitude and humitity level. When this is aplied it is 204.5 hp/238.1 ft.lbs.@ the wheels. The only things I have done to the engine is free-flowing exhaust and intake. The best run was when the car was cooler. I lost a couple points as the car got hotter. You can read about the car on my build thread here http://www.fiero.nl/forum/Forum1/HTML/071783.html dyno result is on page 5. I would like to try to do some improvements in cooling to keep the engine in it's most powerful temp. range. Any ideas? Also I was wondering if going to a larger TB and 3500 upper plenum would be worth it since I can't tune my engine? Would I still see gains?

3500 plenum has smaller ports than the 3400 gasket stock. Open them up to match and boom you have outflowed the 3400 plenum, PLUS you have more plenum space/etc/etc. It broadens the powerband is the main benefit. Plus it's already at 65mm for a TB.
You need to swap to an OBD1 ECM that you can tune. Won't be that hard. Then you can tune and get the full potential out of it.sigpic New 2010 project (click image)

that's pretty good, 5 speed 3400 swapped Jbodies are putting down around 190-195 at just under 1000' above sea level.

You show a 7730 PCM in the thread, but I take it it's not wired in yet...
Did you see Robert's thread on OBD1 swap? The guide has pin-outs that you could apply from the OBD1.5 PCM to the 9396 or even 7730. IIRC the 9396 PCM can even take bins that the 7727/7730 take (sites list the 7727/9396 as interchangeable. Difference is 9396 has more memory for controling trans in the bin). But that doesn't matter as you have the 7730. I'd just keep the SFI OBD1.5 harness you have on there and re-pin on the 7730 using Robert's guide as guidance. Boom you're done. Who cares if extra wires go to sensors no longer being used? Unless you'd want to clean up the engine bay by keeping wires to a bare minimum (IE removing 24x crank, cam, etc sensors)sigpic New 2010 project (click image)

i did it to my monte as a "proof of concept", then he got it done to one of his customer's cars shortly after IIRC.
EDIT: isaac: the 7727 and 16149396 are directly interchangeable. at least going from a 7727 to a 9396 is. can't run a -E tranny on a 7727, but, yes you can run any codemask that a 7727 can on a 9396. 7730 has the 3 connectors that are WAY different from the other two...Last edited by robertisaar; 09-15-2009, 02:45 PM.

My OBD1.5 bastard computer is inside the car, but weather proof. I like the housing on it, cast aluminum looks rugged and should have good heatsinking. I think the older weatherproof ECM's had steel case though.sigpic New 2010 project (click image)

I do believe you are right, the case does look like steel (painted black). I've got 3 '9396, soon to have have 2 since joelbob is interested in one and the under hood harness on the 91 for his project.
Edit: BTW, nice numbersLast edited by pocket-rocket; 09-15-2009, 04:26 PM.-60v6's 2nd Jon M.
