  • im a noob to 3400's

so i have been searching around but im confused... i dont understand how to make my 3400 fast, its stock in an alero with a 4 spd auto

i wanted to do a 62mm throttle body into a ported upper and lower mani with direct port nitrious (WET) into each intake, now is this worth it and can the stock parts handle it? also would it be worth it to just get a 3500 top half (assuming this meants the upper and lower mani from a 3500 someone please clear that up)

    cheers

the 3500 intake mani's will not bolt up to 3400 heads so to swap to a 3500 top it also include the heads.
a ported 3400 intake along witha T.B. would do good and i dont think there is much sence using direct port injection for under 200 shot and stock parts would not handle that much.the most i would spray is 125 and a wet shot is good for that .

would i notice a big different with that ported upper and lower mani and the T.B.? how much hp would i be looking at (disregarding the NOS)
more or less then i would get from a top end swap

and i guess the nos could be rigged up to the intake bafore the mani, i just want to have a even mixture so i dont harm any parts

just swapping to the 3500 upper intake is worth 5-10 HP, maybe a little more if you use the correct 65mm TB. It will bolt to your 3400 lower just fine.

the entire 3500 top end swap is worth atleast 20 HP, more with tuning.

do the 3500 heads up swap it is worth it. you will feel the improvement first drive. tuning will make it a lot better. add a cam for dramatic results

the 3500 heads do have a more efficient combustion chamber, but they are larger, and will drop the CR a little.

okay so get the heads from a 3500, keep my lower 3400 mani and get the 3500 upper mani and the 65mm TB...
now all of this is a direct bolt up, no tuck and fit required (im not that handy around engines but i want to learn)

It all sounds good however I'm not sure that combination actually needs a 65 mm TB.

If you already have the 62mm it will be just fine.

I gained almost nothing going from a 62mm to a 65mm even with headers. And that was measurable by dozens of actual time slips.

The issue I had was driveability and the 65 solved that, but was mainly due to a poorly designed 62 and compromised IAC signal/passage.

EDIT! For the sake of clarity the 62mm I had was NOT a TCE! The 65mm I have IS!

                FWIW!

you'll have to make some adjustments for the vac lines and a minor mod for the MAP sensor. otherwise, it's pretty much bolt up and go.

if you use 3500 heads you need to use a 3500 lim. if you use 3400 heads you need a 3400 lim. at least thats what i got from what i read. sombody that has had the 2 motors in hand will tell ya for sure
