  • please help me find a top-end cam & high rev kit

car in sig, i love my new car but the torque peaks at 3-4k & the hp from 4-4800rpm but when i run my car hard like i like to with my vehicles i notice it is almost never in the 3600 range & not in the 4k range much at all. instead when i went to race my buddy & pass a few people (seperate occasions) i noticed my car wants to rev clear to 7k rpms so what id like to get is a cam that torque peaks at 5.5k & hp peaks at 6.5k as well as a whatever is needed for my engine to run that high of rpms without valve float or engine damage. i figure stiffer valve springs & maybe roller rockers/pushrods-but what would be necessary just to start with?.

your help is VERY much appreciated!!!

The car in your sig is a 3.1 Gen II. 7k rpm is far out of its range and I'd go far as to say something is wrong and it should be shifting well before then.

When I had my 3.1 Beretta 6k felt like I was murdering it. 5.5-6k seems about it for the 3.1 Gen II in my experience. There are cams available that should bump the powerband higher but there still isn't going to be much benefit in revving it so high.

you can slap in a H272 cam but without the top end flow to support it you'll just have a lopey idle and a poorly performing 3.1.

Put that cam in with a 3400 top end and then you'll make power in the 6K range

Agreed. That engine and cam is not going to "want" to rev to 7000. From the 91Cav Z24 I drove in the past that old 3.1L was done by 5000RPM.

If you want 7000RPM out of it then you'll need a Crane F-248 Solid lifter cam and a set of nice valve spring with light retainers and aluminum rockers. Figure out how to tune the car and give it a shot. I will tell you now it will not idle nicely.
