  • J-body 4T65E

For those who don't get to the transmission section much I though I'd let you all know the 4T65E swap into my 94 Z24 was very successful! Things went well mechanically, but the wiring is hell. There are lots of bug with programming, wrong connections, and lots of small details to work out. However, getting the almost infinate tuning capability down to simple small adjustments here and there. I have some pix in the tranny section and will get around to having a few more later. I'll try to grab a video as well. I know there are a few bugging me for one! haha Even at 1/2 throttle, she feel really good and accelerates with ease! Can't wait for the ECM to learn WOT since I haven't spent much time at all there. I do know it's not the first 4T65E in a j-body, but I'm fairly certian it is the first in a Z 24, and if not, has to be the first in a j-body with the FAST transmission controller! Correct me if I'm wrong. Here's hoping she'll run for a long, long time.

Now you just need a bigger engine to take advantage of the larger trans!

level II heads and a 272 should do the trick with that trans for now. but hell, a stock 3400 with headers would make my car scream. it's a lot of fun in my heavy GASE!!

You mean gen3 heads? LOL Yeah you should say, 3400 it with a cam regrind and headers or impala 2004 large logs at least. Basically you'd have impala engine/trans combo in a cavy lol.

awww shit!!! i was gonna do that!! so much was going on i forgot! geez though Dave, i'm sure your car feels faster with your current tranny in. so, you see, i would have missed out. lol

i got my idle issue solved. the TCU somehow was spiking the TPS voltage and getting my TPS to read 7-8%. disconnected the 5+ and ground wires, leaving the data wire connected and that helped. for some reason, the TCU doesn't like "high" voltage at .54. it likes a 0% voltage set at .39 volts from the TPS. it consistently reading 0% and idling normal now. whew! now for those damn reverse lights.

finally got my 500 miles so i let her rip!! WOW she hauls in 1st and still pretty good in 2nd. shifts are now firm and quick! can't wait to get her to the track! the computer is still learning the WOT, but it's much better with several runs. haha weeee

is it normal to lose LSD friction after the break in? it was a lot of work to turn a wheel by hand. now it's not so hard.
