  • Head gasket choice

What headgaskets should i use on my 3400 with 3500 upper end? Im talking to keep the C/R same as stock or a little higher, but without risk of mechanical failure.

If I remember correctly, the MLS head gaskets would probably be the best choice. I didnt see them in the store so Im not sure if they are just out of stock or not listed ot not sold?

you can use either the 3400 or 3500 headgaskets. they're both .060" thick. the 3500 one is a tad larger so you'll lose very little SCR.

there is no need for MLS gaskets on a N/A or lightly boosted engine.

I'm planning on going with Fel-Pro PermaTorque SD head gaskets on my 3100.

Iron head gaskets though brings the piston very close to the head and reduces quench. The pistons come out of the block on gen3 motors.

Yeah, you dont want iron head gaskets on a 3100/3400/3500 piston. The HD felpro gasket doesn't exist for the 3400, only 3100.

2003+ I think is the year GM went to graphite head gaskets on the 3400's.
