  • Does the UIM on my 99 GA flow the same as a 2000?

Are there any differences besides the Egr between the 99 UIM on my Grand Am and a 2000 manifold from an Olds Alero? I want to put the 99 manifold on the Alero but I want to make sure it will flow the same. The Alero feels a little faster and I just want to be sure thats not why.

the kneck is more restrictive as i found out on the 99. the 00+ is more open and does not have the restriction that the pre 99 has.

right between the first runners theres a shelf inside the plenum, where as on the 00+ it is not there and more open.
i found this out after porting it to 65mm.

ill post a pic in a min to show you

Hahha swapping parts from the wifes car?

I doubt that little bit is noticeable. If you want something good that you might feel grab a 3500 plenum, and larger TB. A little more involved but it's the best you can put on.

Its noticable on the flow bench. If you can get the 00+ egr setup for the manifold, I recommend not using the 99 upper.

i dont have a direct through the kneck shot but just looking in its like half the size.
plus with the 00+ you dont have that shelf, the air just flows in.

Hmm, I guess it's more restrictive than I can see. Has anyone swapped this only and felt a difference in the butt-dyno?

ive had both on my car with the current engine, only cause the upper that came with the motor had a crack so i had to swap back to the 99 setup till i got a new manifold.
but thats when i started with dhp so i honestly couldnt tell you.

Ben how much less does the 99 one flow.

No it's actually for a buddy of mine. He's got a 00 Alero but the upper is cracked. I'm swapping my manifolds for a set of ported 2000+ that I've had here for a while. It's not a 3500, but along with the 65mm TB, I figure it should give a little bump in power for now. I was gonna give him my old manifold if it was the same. The difference is noticable off the line but not so much once the car is moving so I'll see what he wants to do. Thanks everyone
