Actually, both the 3.4 and 3500 crank snouts are the same size in length and diameter. The pulley bolts to the very tip of the crank on both motors, wouldn't this mean it would work fine?

If that's the case, then the dampner could be removed from a RWD Gen1 to be replaced with a DIS wheel

Perhaps I am misunderstanding you. Which front cover are you planning to use? I assumed you were talking about using the RWD cover with a FWD dampener. The RWD cover is thicker than the FWD cover and won't allow the FWD pulley/dampener to go all the way back. If it did go back all the way, the pulleys would not line up. An issue with using a FWD cover on a RWD block is blocking the coolant bypass hole in the block.

We make a billet front cover that uses a FWD dampener. You can use a billet water pump or an electric pump with it. It also has provisions for an external trigger mount and the 24x sensor.

That's the answer I was looking for. Can the RWD cover be machined to fit? I only tested for fit briefly, but didn't start adding pulleys etc. Also haven't compared the two blocks for water passages either. Just getting a feel for what to look for.

Would this work using the 88 fiero timing cover and harmonic balancer? This would allow me to re-use the accessories( alternator, etc ) from the old 2.8. It would also remedy issues related to coolant hose plumbing as well as cutting the decklid in order to clear the 3x00 alternator. A caveat to this is a modification to the harmonic balancer that emulates the 7x crank sensor. Would love any feedback on this.
