  • 3400 build

hey i am building a 3400 mostly stock replacement and a 75 shot i was thinking on putting 1.6 rockers and better valve springs so are 3500 valve springs better that the 3400 one or will i have to go aftermarket ?
and i was thinking on building headers but i read somewherea that if yuo get two 3500 rear manifolds its eazy to run duals now are the 3500 manifold alot better flowing than the 3400 ones or am i better of building headers ?

    thanks guys
01 olds shilluette 3400/4T65-E stock for now

    I'd say build headers.
I don't know on the valvesprings..but the ls6 spring will do the trick
and they are pretty cheap/easy to get.
    nothing's impossible-it's just a mindset

looks like you are looking at a similar set-up to my car. I have 3400 with milzy stg 1 cam (dont recomend it) and S&S headers.. you can use these headers in N and some W body cars. Im using a Nitrous Express 75 shot (main-line efi kit). I would recomend gettin a slightly better kit, while mine worked out well, it would have saved a lot of time and headache to spend a few more dollars and get everything you need..

by the way, im using LS-1 valve springs

LS6 springs are the way to go and you can run them with your stock retainers and locks. Stock 3400 rockers are 1.6 roller fulcrum. I am running two front 3500 manifolds as they exit straght down and you can run individual down pipes. Flowmaster makes a y-collector to merge two downpipes into one (2.5" or 3"- Summit Racing and Jegs sell them). 3400 exhaust manifolds use a crossover pipe from the front to the rear just like your 3.1 and exit with one downpipe off of the rear manifold. If you are looking for a cam check out the store here (link is at the top of the page).

well i guess we have the same nitrous kit ! so your 3400 is mostlly stock then ? just the cam headers and nos how good do you run ? because my car is a z24 not as big of a car as a grand prix just to give me a example of what i can expect

and johnny you say that stock 3400 rockers a re 1.6 so there is no need to go with a afermaket set then right ?
and do you have pics of your manifolds with the down pipes ?

Sorry Isaac, just have a living room full of parts right now. I just ordered my cam and pushrods from the 6*60 store and Ben says it may take three weeks to get them. As soon as all of the parts get here I"ll start assembling everthing. I'll post pics as I go just in case anyone may be interested. 2000+ 3400 bottom end, 3500 heads/ LS6 springs, 3500 LIM, 3400 UIM, and I am going to order a 65mm Tb from the store also. I think that I am going to port match everything while I'm waiting for the cam. Can't wait to get it running!

I would if I could get one cheap, I have no access to one around here. My 3400 is a 2000 so at least it's the better one. Anybody have a 3500 UIM reasonaly priced?

my car is running 13.80's right now with the 3400, headers, nitrous, and little useless stuff.. 13.80s is a bit tricky, id expect low 14's to start, then learning how to drive it you might see some high 13's. (its difficult to figure out when to spray, so that the wheels dont spin too much, but still early as possible)

I say i dont like the milzy cam, because it does not run any different than a stock cam car. if it does, it isnt by much.

Did you try car-part.com for the plenum? Make sure to select the right years so you don't get a VVT 3500 plenum..
