  • crane gold race rockers issues?!

have anyone on here had bad experiences with the crane roller rockers?!!

i just pulled my intake manifold after 1 year, 15000 kms and i've found that the rocker tip roller has worn into the rocker body and i've even found a flat spot on one of the rockers.

WTF for the price i paid for these damm things i would have expected them to last.

this is not good, if i heard this from anyone else i would have gone with the stockers or the comp magnums.

I had a set on a 350 that was abused on a regular basis and never had problem with them.

Mine are fine so far. I plan on pulling the top end later this year to inspect them and the milzy cam I got and my oil pump drive gear to see if there are signs of premature wear on any of it.

I've heard of this happening before to aftermarket rockers. Are they aluminum?

was there possibly a lack of oil getting up to the top of the motor through the pushrod?? There are oil holes on these Crane rockers right?

I Would agree that it may have been a lubrication problem.

They have a hole that squirts oil to the fulcrum. perhaps it was twisted? Incorrect lash?

i had a look at it yesterday and it almost looks like it could be an alignment issue. im kinda thinking the guide plates were not in the exact right spot and it wasnt riding on the center of the valve, loading the tip up on one side.

yeah i'm not certain on what is going on, but i'm going to lean more towards the alignment or incorrect lash issue. i followed cranes directions to the dot though, so unless i mis-interpreted something... i dunno.

also, using gen 2 locks and gen 3 retainers, the more i look at that the more i dont think that combination is correct, i need to go find some gen3 locks tomorow and compare.

there definitely isnt an oiling issue. i'm getting lots through the pushrod and through into the rocker.

thanks for the ideas guys, i just want to know what i'm doing wrong.
