  • Minus One update

I have been making some parts for the Minus One for quite a while and decided that it was time to put them on before I start any more projects. I did decide to hold off on adding the twin T-25s for now but am bolting everything else on. The engine is a stock '95 3100 with a 4T65E transmission. Upgrades include 3400 heads & LIM, small reground cam, six 45mm TBs, headers, billet timing chain cover, billet ALT bracket, billet water pump housing and a custom wiring harness to swap from OBD-1.5 to a 16149396 ECM.

I still have to complete the engine mounts, throttle shafts and linkage, air filter covers, relocate battery, finish the exhaust, wiring and tune it with the wideband.

Yeah... I know... a little overkill on the exhaust. But as I have said before, I am not looking for lots of power.

I've been wondering what happened with this project.

I see you removed the coolant bypass tube from the intake, was the old set-up this way? If so did you experiance any cooling issues? (slow to warm up, T-stat not opening soone enough, etc.)

Wow! I was just thinking of how that lower intake was screming for ITBs. Great job, and keep us posted.

It has been quite a while. Too many other projects keeping me sidetracked. I am planning a 3900 powered Mini Cooper project but thought that I should at least finish this first.

The old setup had the coolant tube. I plan to drill a small hole in the T-stat to allow slight circulation during warm up. If I have any problems, I will add another tube. Of course, theres no heater so that isn't an issue. Just trying to clean the top of the engine up as much as possible. I am trying to put something together so people will be wondering what kind of engine it is. And it would be nice to win an award for best engine.

You will bring that to the 60V6 meet and I will put a police tape fence up around it so no one gets any drool on it. Amazing work!
I may own a GTO now, but I'm still a 60V6er at heart.

Thanks Josh. Hope to get to the meet this year but it's way too early to know our work schedule will be then.

Slowly getting things done. Finished the exhaust, made the throttle shafts, finished up the idle manifold, made a coil bracket with a heat sink on the back side and started plumbing the Mallory AFPR.

Any ideas on something to clean the outside of the tranny without removing it? Hydrofluoric acid works good but is hard to find. It is used to clean aluminum tanker trailers and is one of the ingredients in etching wheel cleaner but at a very low concentration.

Oven cleaner is amazing. Get the cheap stuff at the Dollar store. Don't get it on paint though.

Looks awesome!! Once it is tuned I might have to stop out again and have you take me for another ride.

With the rather stock 3100 it was scary fast.... I can't imagine what it will be like with the new mods.

Like Sharkey said, they are custom billet units. Depending on the dyno numbers, reliability and interest received, I may look into building them to sell.

                        Thanks for the props Montess

Although I do not need lots of power, but I am curious what effect these will have on power. Stock numbers seem to be around 125whp and 170wtq. Anyone care to speculate on what the dyno numbers will be with these changes?

No one has a guess on the results?

Finished up must everything on the front of the engine. Completed the engine mounts, water pump, MAP sensor mounted and plumbed. Need to get rid of the stock bottom mount.
