  • The Hybrid coming together.

Well the project started a while ago and its finally starting to come together.

Started with an 05 3400 sold the top end of that, Bought a 04 3500 sold the bottom end of that, and all and all it equaled out to be the cost of the first motor.

Its going to be a 3400 lower end with a Milzy Motorsports Stage 1 cam, with a 3500 top end, gasket matched ports and 3 angle valve job.

    Cam Specs:
    Stage 1 NA - .305/.308 lobe lift (.488/.493 valvelift),
    209.4/213.1 duration,
    110 LSA, 108 IC

Valve covers on for visual effect to see the color scheme... Lower and upper will be black with machined polished lettering, and polished fuel rails... TB may be that gray color, I'm not sure yet.

And the port work thats going into the intakes... This is only gasket matching, I'm not porting and polishing the whole port...

Note this is all before sanding, this is only rough ground with the dremel.

      Before

      After(different port obviously)

      Side by side

      Upper ports Before

      After

Upper intake what needs to be removed.

      Gasket match comparisons

Still have 8 ports on the lower to go, and 6 on the upper... Yahoo!!!

And this was all done on the head already... Intake side... Exhaust ports on the manifolds are larger than the ports on the head so thats fine as is unless I felt like opening up the head ports.

Dude, use the 3500 plenum!!! It's worth it!!! Don't put a 3400/3100 upper on there. Come on!!! Don't even waste your time porting the 3(1/4)00 plenum!

Besides, the 3500 plenum is easier to port. Just gasket match it and your done. Much less metal to take off since it has no runners! (I bell-mouthed the inside of mine though too, but that was easy)

                DUDE!!! NOO!!!!!!

Its like another 200 bux in parts that I would need... Plus I want this thing to look stock.

A ported 3400 upper flows just fine for my application... Plus I think the 3500 one looks ugly.

I sold the one that came off my 3500 anyways.

MAYBE someday I'll put one on if I feel like it but at this point in time I want it to be a plug and play motor. Same reason why I'm using a 3400 lower.

                  Lookin good!

I agree with the 3500 upper though, it's so much better than the 3400 one regardless of it's ugliness. haha

I want to find a 3500 plastic engine cover for mine... maybe i'll rent a car and make one dissappear :P

I dont want to buy a TCE throttle body, or just an adapter, and then have to fool with vacuum line routing and all that other crap... Like I said I want this to look as stock as possible... I'm sure I'll squeeze some good ponies out of this sucker..

i agree w using the 3400 uim, but the lim also...are there fitment issues? or is it just the port size...ud get better gains from the 3500 lim wont u, and ull need the flow for the smaller CR

It is a 3500 lower... I'm using the 3400 upper for ease of install in my car.. I'm trying to keep things simple since this is complicated enough for my daily driver... If it wasnt a daily car then I would go for the 3500 upper and TCE throttle body and go nutso, but I'm limited on funds and whatnot.

A ported 3400 will flow yes, but there is more to the 3500 plenum than flow. The design is a lot better. For a NA engine, you'd benefit from it. More low end and more top end for a flatter power-band.

$200? Nah. The MAP sensor was still on mine, (and I had the plenum shipped from a wreckers, all the sensors/etc were still on it!) I'd assume yours would be the same. So you need a cheap junkyard cavalier map connector, solder it on (I'll be soldering it and leaving the stock connector so I can switch to 3400 style if I sell the car ever and keep my 3500). That's cheap. What else? EGR adapter from the store is $60 or make your own or do burn's $5 EGR adapter. TB adapter is $50. So $110 or so, or cheaper if you make your own EGR adapter. I'm using a 56mm 3400 TB.

Paint it up nice like in my avatar and it won't look that bad. I like mine I think it makes the motor look "hot" I don't want to look stock. Even though my motor makes close to stock HP, looking different is half the fun! haha. more pics here http://isaachayes.home.mchsi.com/car

                              You shouldn't have sold it!!

My total cost if you don't count gaskets or the plenum (since you already had one!) is: $61. (TB adapter, 3400 TB, Map connector, NPT barbed fitting, plastic T, vacuum hose, EGR adapter). Items underlined were free or free materials and hand fabricated. Total includes shipping! (hint I got the TB adapter when it first came out and was cheaper!) Of course my real cost is higher since I don't have a 3400/3500 to start with so I had to get the LIM for it to bolt on to,
