  • Couple quick questions

Well guy all know that '94 olds that Im parting out?! Well I started taking apart the motor today, I knew it wasnt the original one, but I found out it was a '95+! Which will now lead me to a few questions I have for interchanging of parts

    1) It has the fulcrum roller rockers. Mine has the stamped steel. These will bolt right onto my heads correct?

    2) Now the pushrods between the two motors are the same correct? pushrod length. ( I know the exhaust is longer than the intake, that is not in question )

    3) At the same time I will be puttin on P&P UIM and LIM on this car. Everything will be gasket matched, but will I need to get the '95+ LIM gasket where the guide plates are part of the LIM gasket?

    Thanks

    1) Your car is a 94? It wont bolt on unless your heads have the threaded holes for them or whatever I forget what it is. I doubt a 94 will have them.

    2) I'd say they are probably the same.

    3) The LIM gasket you should get would be the one that is the same as the heads as you are running. Example I have 94 heads and I'm putting on 3400 intake manfiold, so I use 94 LIM gasket. (note since I don't have roller fulcrum rockers I had to grind the intake to clear the rockers).

      1) The heads require a notch in them to align the pedestal of the rocker. Isaac is right in saying your heads probably do NOT have these notches in them.

      2) Same.
      3) See Isaac's response.

So then if I took off the guide plates, and for some reason they were there, I could use then ( kind of a very slim chance ) but basically Ill have to swap to the newer style head then.

Correct. There is a slim chance the notches are there, but I would say there is a 95% chance that they aren't. Why not just use all the top end parts from the donor engine?

Because its the difference between a '94 3100 and a '96 3100. So basically, there is no difference. All the port sizes are the same and the real only difference I could see was in the heads with the fulcrum rollers and the absence of the guide plates since they are now part of the gasket.

Oh I see. yeah 96 heads only give you roller rockers. No bigger valves.

If you are swapping large port intakes, you gotta clearance the LIM (unless you have roller rockers). If swapping ported small port manifolds, no worries of course.

Even for the price to p&p the small port manifolds, it still costs alot as per how much power Ill gain. I almost think Im just better off swapping in a 3400
