  • PushRods!!!

hey i just put in LS1 valve springs into my 2.8, now i'm getting a ticking noise that sounds like it's comming from the top end... 1+1=2 so i'm guessing that i need stronger pushrods to handle the heavier springs. also i'm thinking of getting new lifters just to refresh the valve train. any suggestions? just to let you know, I'M CHEAP! so low prices would be cool. thanks

What other mods are done besides the springs? All the time it takes to get into the valve covers, should have done more upgrades. Just put 1.7 roller rockers and new pushrods in mine since I had the manifold off...

And painted the UIM while I was at it...

I know, I know, should have filed the casting marks of the UIM but didn't have time.
    .
Did you find a good deal on the springs? The exhaust valves are dangerously close to binding with the 1.7 rockers.

I didn't do any other mods while i was in because i was short on time. i was re ringing the pistons, and i had bought the valvesprings at the dealership i work at for $1.67 EACH!! this is a daily driver that i drive 100 miles a day or more in, so i want good gas milage. currently i get in the mid 30s. so, you got any info?

Are you sur you re-installed the pushrods correctly (some 60*'s have different lengths).
Can you get me some of those LS1 springs? For that price I'll take 24 of them, lol!

Did you replace the pushrods with different ones too?
If you did you probably bought/used all short pushrods to replace yours.

no, i just reused the old ones, they still looked good, and i did use them in the correct locations. I'm looking for new, stronger ones.

you don't need stronger pushrods for the LS1 springs, sounds to me like you just need to tighten down the rockers a little to get the right preload.

              Pics/videos would be nice...

what shims, retainers, seals and locks did you use to put those springs on the 2.8 heads?

my engine has floating rockers, they are supported by the pushrods/lifters on one side and the other side is supported by the valve stem/valve spring, there is no preload just torque the nuts to 18 ft.lb. with the springs i just reused most of the parts e.g. retianers, locks and seals. the seals are not like the 3x00 ones, they just slide down the valve and attach to the head, no metal piece involved.

lol, i know how yours work. i've rebuilt my fair share of 2.8's and 3.1's also several SBC's.

there still needs to be preload on the lifters, that 18 ft lbs should take care of it though. I've had many Gen2's that i had to pull the valve covers and add another 1/4 turn to the rockers to get rid of the slack/ticking.

If i were you i'd ditch those old retainers and locks for even a stock set of the gen3's. atleast they'll fit the spring propperly.

alright, i'll have to do that next weekend, thanks for the info. i'm also planning to put a set of springs on a 3.4l that i'm building. what should i do about the valve guide seals, the LS1 springs won't work with them.
