the biggest issue is the vvt. untill someone makes a non vvt cam blank you will never get decent power from it unless you can controll the vvt.

I am hoping to resolve that issue in the near future. Time has been scarce for me lately and I haven't made much progress in the last two months. I was considering making 20 to 40 billet cam blanks for the LZ engines but there never seems to be much discussion about the LZ series engines and it makes me wonder how much of a demand there is and if I will be stuck with a bunch of cams. It would be a considerable investment to make based on speculation. I want to help the community as much as possible but also have to make a living.

No. HP is not dependent on bore size or displacement. The longer stroke does generally create more low-end torque. I'm not in search of ground stomping power off idle. I also would like to do something unique. A large bore, short stroke engine would be very neat. The price of custom pistons are discouraging though.

I have 3 engines that were free. I'm pretty much just doing a rebuild, cam regrind, and port work. Then I'm going to turbocharge it.

Thanks for all the comments guys. I appreciate all the help. I'm going to teardown the 3100 soon and see how it is. Hopefully it just needs a little freshing up.

Why not just stick with the original plan of making a VVT delete or over ride to lock the stock cam at the proper or neutral straight up position and go from their, leaving the ability to restore the original setup in the event someone gets the needed information for a stand alone controller to operate it.

Truth be told, until it is run as is there is no way of knowing for sure that loss of the VVT will only result in a small loss of top end or bottom end power if locked half way between its full range. The stock cam can be reground to help and I thought I recalled someone have a cast iron roller cam made which is cheaper for experimental purposes. The two stage intake nets a few horsepower up top so basically locking it in the high output range is feasable for performance.

Now that my project is on hold for a wile I'll be certain to save for the 3.9 swap and will try to locate the engine with cylinder select since it is an apparently simple system operated by on off hydraulic pressure to special lifters at pistons 1,3 and 5. Bolted to the 6 spd tranny that I nearly have worked out I imagine it could achieve unreal gas mileage and still have the ability for substantial power output with the turbos.

You guys should also look into the 6 spd since it has already been fitted to a fwd car and the OE shifter mechanism from the G6 is already positioned correctly to accomodate it.
