Borla?

im upgrading right now to a 3'' exhaust since the 2.5 isnt going to cut it for my next engine, and ive been shoppin around for some mufflers and have decided on the borla xr-1. anyone have a sound clip of a xr-1 or even a borla on a 60*v6?

Sorry for the hijack, but this is sorta related.

How much louder are bullet mufflers over say a normal shaped muffler?

I have a SS ultraflo (straight through), and it's not loud enough... I have stock cat and no resonator...

Will you loose rumble on a NA engine? From the video clip it doesn't seem that way. The 3100 SFI is always quieter than the 3.1 MPFI though it seems.

My Borla has stainless baffling and you can see str8 through it. Typically round mufflers are louder because they have less room for sound suppressing baffling. If your exhaust isn't loud enough than 86 the cat. Replace it with a piece of pipe or a hi flow cat. Actually you gain rumble. I learned one thing about mufflers...never go with a shitty brand, metal or quality. I like Borla because they have a killer warranty and the BEST quality ever.

a fiero is always going to be louder than a front engine vehicle due to how short the exaust system actualy is. i run flowmaster 60 series (actualy 2 of them) and i love the sound. mine is a bit different being dual from the headers back though. i have heard a 60 series with a cat on a stock 2.8l and they are a nice low tone and not raspy, but is a bit quiet. i also have heard the same mufdfler mounted in place of the cat and side exit exaust. it sounded cool, but dont expect to talk to the passenger when driving on the freeway.

All good points and I've already thought of them (shorter exhaust length, less sound absorption fiber glass). And thinking about it now, a bullet muffler will still let the rumble through. A turbo style muffler where it snakes in an S probably wouldn't though.

I guess I could swap out the SS ultraflow (built the same way as a borla) and go with a bullet style muffler. If that's not enough, then take the cat off, knock it out, weld a pipe through it, and replace. We have to have a visible cat on our cars, but it doesn't have to be working (no emissions test).

Oh!!! another question, would Z26 exhaust tips cause any sound attenuation? Since they are big then have washer restricter type holes in them, I would think that would limit flow and sound when it hits the flat insert in them....
