  • Crazy idea...

Looking into a crazy idea ive been tossing around for a while. im saving up some money for a nice car that i can use for track and spirited highway driving. but for now i want something faster then what i have... and my crazy idea came back to me. The ultimate sleeper.

    1987 Chevy Celebrity 2.8L .... AUTO.

im looking into moth Turbo charging and Spraying. ive got a 100HP spray setup already planned out.

but im wondering if the engine could handle that much?

and are there any turbos from other vehicles that are semi bolt on with this motor?

    thank you for your time!!!

look around for an old Chevette and build up a turbo '660 for that..

3.4 Camaro block, 2.8 MPFI crank, forged rods, custom pistons, 3500 top end, turbo headers, BIG leaf blower... that'll put you into the 11's easy

1)the celebirty is a fuck around car... i wanna do this so if i fuck up it doesnt really matter, and 2... well its a Sprayed celebrity... you dont see that everyday. i am eventually going to upgrade to a real car, but i dont wanna fuck up a real car lol.

i dont really car what it runs @ the track. i just wanna know what i could do to squeeze a couple more horse out of it.

installing a turbo and nitrous on an 87 2.8 is not only a complete waste of time and money.. but it's also going to blow the engine sky high. That tranny won't hold more than 200 HP reliably (without a hi-pro rebuild) and the engine WILL come apart. I've seen a perfectly good running Turbo 3.1/3400 hybrid wipe a cam lobe in just a few hours of running around on the highway.

75 wet shot is about the most you can run on the stock pistons w/o blowing holes in them, between 6 and 10 PSI is about the max boost you can run as well (with propper fueling).. mix both and you can kiss that engine goodbye

Now, if you want to build a turbo '660 from scratch and have a seriously fast car... then we can talk specs

We aren't really like that around here dude. You might want to go over to the GM Performance Tuning forum.

Sorry, I couldn't resist. If you want to do this cheap look into doing a remote mount turbo.

and im saving up for a fast car... but its nothing you would think is fast but i have some plans for it. well 2 cars actually... but thats not relevent.

i just want to mess around with nitrous to see if i want to use it on a later project. and since the engine on my celeb is in great shape [only 58K on it] and its my backup car i figured why not experiment with it?

on that note: 75 wet shot is the most the motor will hold with out blowing?

                    whats this remote turbo mount?

and money isnt exactly an issue... i just want to learn more about FI and nitrous and i learn best by doing.

Well, the turbo mounts in place of the muffler. Other than that it's essentially just like any other turbo kit. Only you don't have to worry about fabbing up turbo manifolds, or a new crossover. And it keeps the heat and cramping out of the engine bay.

As for the nitrous, 75 shot wet is as high as I would go. I've got a friend who's been running a 100 wet shot on an internally stock 3400 without nuking it yet. But that's just a bit too risky for my blood.

which would give me more performance?

im still leaning towards the nitrous, since i want to mess around with it and see if i would like to use it on a later project, and it seems like it would take less time and money to get installed.

Oh yeah, nitrous is going to absolutely be cheaper, but I can't argue with the numbers I've seen out of these engines when turbocharged. I'm talking guys pushing close to the 500hp barrier out of a 3.1. But that's also a load of money.

Nothing beat nawz' bang for the buck. Both figuratively and literally.

Then why didnt you try already and tell us how it worked?? like its super easy to say im gunna, but no one knows how well somthing will work till its tryed.. Take my intake manifold for instance, I had 2 or 3 people(not on here) swear up and down that it juss plain wont work.Well saying it wasnt going to work was defanatly easyer than making it work was.. but I actualy made it work.. Point is a million people can say somthing dosent work or wont happen but it takes olny 1 person to prove them all wrong.

well thats my modivational speach for the day

a search for it. I did (had never heard of it until this post), and the first like I clicked gave me a lot of good information. Now that is a twist I had though about, but never acted one (trying to find a way to put a turbo UNDER the car instead of in the engine compartment).
