  • starter died, can i use a 3400 starter?

my starter died on me yesterday. i was reading some posted about starters and came across some info that a 3400's starter is smaller and makes more TQ. is it possable to swap the starter from a 3400 to a 3100?

My 01 lumina has the small starter on it, and it has a 3100. I can only guess... but I imagine that if the wires all hook up the same (and I can't see why they wouldn't), then it should probably work.

Yes it's swappable. You can also use a 2.2 OHV starter. I think the gear reduction starter on the 2.2 started in 01 or 02
