  • Replaced LIM - Now Valetrain clank - HELP!

I had a leaking lower intake manifold gasket. I never have done this procedure before, and me and some friends took it on. After all said and done, there is a clanking sound.

We were VERY carfeful to make sure we kept the intake and exhaust pushrods in the correct order. We tighted the rocker arms to the torque spec, and went 30 degrees as stated in the Haynes manual. We tightened them at TDC. Not all of them seem to be making this noise. Just seems like one in the front possibly.

Any idea what went wrong here? The sounds is louder and faster with slight rev inscrease.

Are the lifters on this engine solid or hydraulic? Thanks!

They are hydraulic lifters. If you think the sound is coming from the front, take off the front valve cover and make sure all of the pushrods are still in their guides and in the pockets of the lifters. I broke one of the guides once and it clanked pretty bad.

I never heard of the 30 degrees "after torque spec" that sounds like a procedure for adjustable studs as seen in gen-1 660's. When I did my lower, the torque spec for the roller rockers was about 18 lb/ft IIRC, and that's it.
