Swapping Transmissions

I'm curious as to whether I can put a 2001 4t60-e transmission into my 97' Lumina (Gen 3 3.1), or even a 4t65-e, as my OD has cashed out, also, will a 3400 connect to either? Are these GM 60 degree engines all interchangable? I'm looking for advice as well as maybe a chart as to what all swaps.

All of the 60-degree engines have the exact same bolt pattern for the tranny, so any tranny used with a 60º will bolt to any other 60º. So therefore, the 01 4T60E will bolt up to a 97 3100, as well as any of the 3400s. The only issues that may come up would be computer issues. The internals (electrically) may be slightly different between the years, thus possibly causing computer control issues. As far as the 4T65E, thats a totally different beast. It will bolt up, but there are significant computer issues to overcome.

For a 97 you should all ready have a 4t60e in your car.. Look at the top of the transmission under the air intake pipe.. if there isn't a tv cable going into the top then it's a 4t60e.. if there is it's an older style 4t60(440t4)... A 65 wouldn't work.. it's a fulled computerize transmission where as the 4t60e still uses a vacume mod to controle line pressure

I think the reason he was asking was because, as stated, his OD went out. Therefore he is looking to swap a new tranny in. The 01 4T60E was probably something he just found for the right price.

Brad is right, now who would I contact to see if the electronics have changed? A Chevy dealership?
