  • loss of compression causing missfire

i had my car compression checked on all cylinders and they said it was low on compression on all of them. and atold me to use engine restorer to get some of the compression back. is there anything simple besides a major engine overhaul i can do. any help is apreciated. would this make it missfire or is it a totally other probelm thats causing that new plugs, wires, and coil packs.

What were the compression readings? Or did they just tell you they were low...?

First thing is, open it up and find out why the low compression. Could be rings. May get away with a re-ring job. Personally, I hate 'em. I go that deep, it gets a total rebuild. There ain't no easy pour in fix. If a mechanic told you to use Engine Restore, he was either lazy or not ASE Certified. That stuff just works short time, and not that well. But the misfire may be another issue.

If he never told you what the readings were then dont believe him. Also do you know if the dumbass even did it hot or cold? I say get a tester and do it yourself.

Yep, double check before you take it apart.

yeah i plan on gettin a tester and doing it myself cause to be honest i dont trust the midas people i just took it there for convienience. but considering how they werent gonna make any money off of me they just wanted to get rid of me. another question is would it be better to do it hot or cold cause when it starts to missfire the engine is up to normal running temp.

It should be at operating temp.
