  • Timing cover gasket-what else?

    Hello,

I'm working on one of my old beaters, a 97 Lumina w/ 3.1l. It needs a new timing cover gasket. So I have the cover off.

Just asking for opinions. What else should I replace while I'm in there? The timing chaining has some slack on the left side, I guess that is normal, it is tight on the right side.

I think I am going to replace the camshaft sensor, since I've been getting an intermittent code for that. I don't know if I should replace the crankshaft sensor, guess I will if it is cheap part.

    Thanks for advice.

Oh yeah, car has about 128K on the odometer.

I'd replace that chain and the sprockets while its apart. That is one nasty looking work space lol

Nasty, drippy and sticky engine, but the piece O crap still runs. I luv it.

That almost sounds like a STD

Don't buy a cheap replacement one either, it will fail quicker than the stock setup. If you want to stretch the life of the car its worth getting the GM setup that Ben sells on the WOT store.

And remember to replace the set. Putting a new chain on old gears is just asking for premature wear.
