  • I bought another 660- Tunable this time! :)

What did you guys do to me? Got me hooked on 60 degree engines is what. It's cool.

Needed a vehicle for winter, as the Camaro is allergic to snow, plus, I need to haul stuff once in awhile. Bought a 93 Cavalier Station Wagon. 3.1. 113,000 miles, not the prettiest thing on earth compared to Camaro and Cutlass, but very functional. And it is white. I have twins!

But there is a problem, there always is with the cars I buy.(it's why I get them so cheap, $500 for this one, owner was fed up)

Here is the story. Car runs great for 30 miles, then pull up to a stop sign and it dies. Starts right back up, put in gear, and dies. Let sit for 15-30 minutes, starts and runs for 30 more miles. Owner has replaced o2 sensor, coil packs , plugs and wires, and some other things he couldn't remember. Here is my thought.
Car heats up and something has a crack that opens wide enough at certain temp that a connection is lost. Crank sensor maybe? Gimme some thoughts. I know this is gonna be a cheap fix!

DON'T FORGET TO VOTE TUESDAY! Republican please.

What do I get if I get this right?

Unplug the TCC connector on the trans. Those 3spds are notorious for having the TCC solenoid go bad and then it won't unlock and the car dies when you come to a stop. They aren't too hard to put in from what I've heard.

If you are right, a hearty handshake. But I still need more input. Gonna drive it home tomorrow, no stops for 35 miles, then, town. I thought i'd park it at the end of the off ramp, then drive it back after an hour. 5 stoplights. If I unplug the TCC? What happens?

no TCC lock up. prob a good idea to replace the TC and TCCS, sounds like it could be the TC locking up too

Handshake to IsaacH. That's exactly what it is! I can feel the TC shudder. I'm going to try a quick fix first. Dr. Tranny's Instant Shudder Fix. Then the TCC, and if needed, the whole thing. Still worth the money. Thanx.

An LX9 swap would fix whatever ails it.

                Yes it would.
Compared to how the car looks, I was very surprised at how well it runs, aside from the tranny problem. If I would have driven it before asking the original question, I probably would have figured it out on my own. Considering it was like coming to a stop sign, and not pushing in the clutch.

But this may help someone else down the road. I did find an earlier post, about 3 pages long, and there was no resolve.

I think, I shall just drive the crap out of it. Maybe 2 cans of Krylon. Knowing me, I'll put snow tires on the front. Tranny is fixed.

Five hunert dollar car. Nice to be able to haul stuff. And no Honda no more!
Good side, engine bay looks very clean. I'll draw a picture soon.
                      It's got a cassette player!

Down side. Still looks like crap.

Good side. 2 sets of keys.

Bad side. Short seats me. Hard to get out of. Have to keep unlocking doors. Still looks like crap.
