I had to finally get rid of my somehow FUBARed engine crossover exhaust pipe because it had been bent somewhere along the line before I bought it from the junkyard ($30 versus $180) and it was throwing my whole exhaust out of alignment. I went to the yard where I got the other pipe (out of the back of a van the guy keeps exhaust parts in), and pulled a crossover from a wrecked '91. The pipe fits nicely, for the most part. It's a little bit closer to the oil pan than I'd like, but I think it should be okay. And the best part is that my cat-to-muffler intermediate pipe isn't hitting either the heat shield in the rear or the pass side front seatbelt receiver bolt any more. But, there's a problem.
The pipe was pulled from the wreck complete, uncut, with an O2S in it. I removed the existing O2S (wasn't difficult at all except starting the O2S out of the hole) and swapped in my less-than-a-year-old O2S, since I didn't know how old the other one was and it looked contaminated anyways. Now, my O2S that I pulled out of the junk pipe from my car started to go into the bung just fine. The problem lies in the fact that the O2S absolutely will NOT go into the pipe far enough to squish the gasket ring that is on it and it's leaving about 2 threads out of the bung. I believe this could be causing the exhaust leak that's really bugging me (I've tried everything to get rid of that exhaust leak in that area for seven years now!). And no, I can't reuse the O2S that was in the pipe when I pulled it at the yard... I cut it up to get it out (cut off the wire and had to knock the outer shell off to get a flare wrench on it as that was what was available at the moment).
What I'm looking for is someone whom makes headers and pipes or someone who knows what size threads are on the O2S... So I can go out and get a tap to clean the threads and get the O2S in the hole all the way.
